I glanced up at the clock.

'1.30am already? Shit it's late...'

I yawned as I watched Yuma walk back out of the kitchen. "Is Kitty-kun sleepy~?" Kou mused, gently pushing in his chair. I scoffed, giving him a small eyeroll before replying. "Well it's not exactly the time of day for me to be up," I sighed, yawning again.

"I gotta go shower before I sleep so gnight you guys~" I say dreamily, waving good-bye as I left the room.

I walked up the stairs, my socks muffling my footsteps.

I grabbed my clothes and went for a quick shower but just as I was headed to the clothesrack to change and dry myself off-

*click*

The lights went out.

"Fuck-" I curse, immediately losing all awareness of my surroundings.

I grope around, trying to remember where I had put my clothes. Being butt naked in the dark with a house full of vampires... Not a good thing. I shivered as the chill set in, the water on my skin only serving to make me even colder.

I walk further along before I bump into something. I back up quickly, the shock making me slow to realise what I'd hit.

'a person...!'

I stumbled back, cursing under my breath. Whoever it was it wouldn't be good.

I felt a hand grasp my shoulder and I dashed to the side, almost falling in the process thanks to the wet tiles. Then something grazed my hip, sending a fierce shudder down my legs. Before I could even recover an arm wrapped around my back and a I felt someone's breath on my neck.

Every horrible thought that had run through my head in the storeroom came back. I felt myself shake and my legs gave in as a primal fear set in.

'He's here!'

I knew it was impossible.

He couldn't have made it here, no way. He was way to scared of Subaru to do it.

And even so how would he know where we stayed?

It was impossible for him to be here.

But the gaping hole in my gut was gluttinous and knew no bounds, swallowing my rational thoughts whole.

I scrambled back, running into a wall.

My heart dropped and I curled into a ball defensively.

"Please, anything else-" I whisper, hiccuping as sobs ravaged my chest.

I couldn't cry, I couldn't scream. It was just this paralyzing horror that had me in an iron grip and plunged me into icy stillness.

I hear wet footsteps approach as I grab at my hair.

'please...no...'

My throat hurt, air barely passing my lips as I struggled to breathe.

The person comes to a stop before me and I flinch as I hear their clothes rustle as they crouch down. I grit my teeth, ready for another nail and tooth fight when something falls over me, covering me entirely.

I lift my head but suddenly warm cloth comes under me.

I recognised the scent of the diffuser I always had on my desk, I was in my room.

I lift the cover off me, now realising it was a large towel.

As I peeked out, a large white candle is lit by the other end of my room, illuminating it to let me see who had brought me here.

"S-shu..." I mutter, staring at the blonde as the candlelight flickered in his blue eyes.

I saw him carefully avoid the candle once it was lit, just barely staying in the light.

'right, he has pyrophobia...' I think, watching the boy stare at me, occasionally glancing at the candle when the light seemed to flicker a little too much.

I tried to sit up further but realised just how exposed I was. I wrapped the towel tightly around my waist, now feeling a little antsy under his scrutinizing gaze. I watch as his silhouette leaves the candle's light just as something soft plops beside me. I reach for it, grabbing a handful of fabric. 'my clothes...'

I try to look around the room but it seemed that Shu was gone.

Quickly changing into my clothes, I hung the towel on a nearby chair just as the lights came back on with a clunk. 'damn old house and it's crappy wiring...' I curse, recalling what had just happened in the bathroom.

That's when I heard a rustling of sheets.

I turn back and sure enough there he was, in all his neet glory.

I rub a hand on my sleeve to warm myself up and gather the courage to talk to him. "H-hey Shu-"

"Sorry."

'huh?'

"What for?" I ask in an attempt to brush over the situation, sitting down on the bed.

He glanced at me before averting his eyes.

"What did you mean by again?" He asked calmly.

I let out a small breath.

"I- uh-" I shuddered at the thought. 'get a hold of yourself' I tried to regain myself but failed rather miserably.

Then I heard footsteps approach us.

My ears pricked and I looked back only to be turned back around by a large sheet wrapping around me. "Shu," I heard a familiarly gruff voice mumble, 'Subaru...'

Shu glanced up then looked back at me before nodding, him then disappearing without a trace. I stared at the empty spot on the bed before I heard footsteps depart down the hall. Seems like they left.

I laid down and shut my eyes, hoping to find solace in my rare alone time.

Yet I couldn't seem to stop the part of me that wanted someone beside me, to find comfort in the presence of someone I trusted.

The bed felt colder than before, the queen-sized mattress now a seemingly endless expanse of white sheets.

"Is anyone there...?" I ask in a whisper, mostly rhetorically.

Despite knowing it was impossible, I couldn't help the part of me that waited for some saviour to appear beside me, having heard my plea that was uttered below my breath.

This wasn't some stupid drama where comfort from the person of your dreams was one lonely night away.

This was some twisted fanfiction-esque situation that happened to be my life.

And the space beside me happened to remain cold and empty.
