Chapter 61: HAREM ASSEMBLE

Buzzing.

Loud, obnoxious buzzing that wouldn't leave him alone.

'shut the fuck up...'

He turns, hoping to envelop Ace in his arms.

Then a shooting pain forces his eyes open, the blaring light assaulting his eyes.

He hisses.

Blinking away the glare from his retinas, he move to sit up but he can't move.

"What the hell?"

He's barely able to crane his head down to look at the rest of his body.

Hre felt like crap.

More than usual.

He paused as he spotted the crimson caking his arm and waist.

'ACE-!'

He moves to sit up again and cringes, the pain in his back searing throughout his torso.

As he opens his eyes, he realised the blood was his, the red liquid now slowly trickling from some wound on his side that he couldn't see.

The anxiety that once surged through his system dissapated, leaving him in a state of nasty shock.

"Oi, Subaru," A familiarly annoying voice calls for him.

He glances up, peering through strands of messed up hair, sure enough, it was Ayato.

"Where's Ace?" Its the first thing that comes to mind as Ayato crouches down to help separate Subaru from the rubble. Ayato clicks his tongue. "We haven't had blood in too long, my cuts aren't healing either." He clearly changes the subject as he lugs the albino to his feet.

Subaru wraps an arm over Ayato's shoulder, grabbing at his own waist.

It seemed like the bleeding was stopping, whatever bones he'd broken had managed to somewhat repair themselves.

Subaru glanced up at the crater he'd left in the ceiling. He definitely broke a rib from that.

He hurridly shakes the pointless thoughts from his head.

"Where is Ace?" He reiterates. This wasn't a matter he'd back down on.

Subaru note the way his brother's grip on his bicep tightens as his jaw locks.

Ayato wouldn't even have needed to say anything, Subaru could already tell from his reactions alone.

"He took him..."

He couldn't explain what seemed to happen to him in the next few seconds upon hearing that.

He wanted to laugh,

Then fall to the floor,

Then cry,

Then run,

Then he wanted to punch something.

But one things stayed true throughout all of those unusual feelings.

He wanted Ace back.

He looks up at Ayato and sees the same fire reflected in his eyes.

"I can't lose my pillow to that guy. Coming?" Shu, ever one for words appeared behind the two brothers.

No words are exchanged as Subaru leans off of Ayato, choosing to stand on his own.

A silent promise.

They would bring back Ace.

No matter the cost.

"And just where do you three think you are going?"

The trio turn to face their megane brother, his iconic pair of glasses now sporting a brand new crack down the centre of the right lense. Still he pushes it up higher onto his nose bridge.

"Surely you do not believe you will be able to reclaim the human in that state." He gestures a gloved hand vaguely in their direction.

The three of them look down but already know full well what he was refering to. Aside from Shu, they were all badly beaten and their wounds were still taking way too long to heal.

Subaru's white shirt was soaked in his blood, turning the white fabric a cruel crimson. Ayato on the other hand had fewer visible injuries but he could very much still feel that one rib creak with every breath he took.

"You three have been starving yourself of blood for far too long. I'd expect this from Subaru but not you two." Reiji sighed. "Yeah well Ore-sama won't have anyone else's blood," Ayato rebutted stubbornly.

Reiji sighed again but made no effort to argue further.

"I have boosters that may help you for a while but remember that you need to have blood soon," Reiji chided before striding towards his room. "I would rather not have my brothers die... No matter how useless."

Shu found himself staring at his younger brother. For the first time it seemed as though he actually cared.

It seemed Ace made a big impact on all of them.

"We get those boosters and we get Ace back," Subaru muttered, already upset with the delay.

Who knows what Ace was going through right now?

They needed him back.

They needed him now.
