"What a week. I've never seen so much smooching."
"Guilty."
"Aye," Say Alex and Grace.
I give Alex and Grace a weird look for saying something so out of character like "Aye". Then I turn my attention to Stef.
"Stef, you were the least I saw," I try to not make her feel as bad.
"I'm still guilty," She frowns.
"Whatever. The true culprits are Lily and James."
It's been almost 2 weeks since they started dating. I think you know who they is.
We're having our ladies night. Our ladies night doesn't include our newest member. That's a privilege you earn, not a benefit for dating one of us.
"Stop over exaggerating everything, not our faults we're in happy relationships. They certainly seem to be in one," Grace says.
It stings when she says that. I know I'm single, I see the sign over my head. Bright, with a fat arrow pointing down to me under the word 'single'.
She's not wrong: happy couple, happy life. But there's no need to rub it in my face. It's like every time I walk by their lips smash together. It's annoying, no one likes excessive PDA.
Especially their PDA.
Lily has been joining our table more and more often, always managing to squeeze beside James. Our group format has been thrown off. I don't like change, no one likes change. Yet, now I sit in front of James when I used to sit beside him every day. Weird.
"Don't be too judgy. They're in a honeymoon phase," Alex notices my face.
Apparently I've been known to have a a clear 'Fuck you' face. The one where you're like this bitch is awful. She deserves whatever bad karma is coming at her. That face.
"I don't like change."
"Change is the only constant in our life," Alex goes philosophical on us.
I roll my eyes, "Okay, sure. Let's go with that. I don't like this change."
"You just don't want to accept I'm right," Alex fights on.
My hands go up, "You caught me. It always pains me when you're right."
"I know, and it happens so often," Alex smiles, a sort of creepy smile.
We continue spilling tea or beans or your food of choice. Please insert here your spilling food.
"My mom said that if I bump it up to an A, I can buy that swimsuit I wanted," Grace finishes off her story.
Alex makes a double take when Grace says she needs an A. "Isn't it a C?"
"Yes, a high C."
"A battle I believe you can win," Stef encourages.
"Ah, school, a war you never asked to be drafted in, but once you are, you're there for 12 years," I smile and look off into the distance, pretending to look back on the good old days.
"For real. I never asked for this shit," Stef agrees.
"Amen," the ever so religious Grace says.
