"What are you making?"
"If you wait, you'll know."
"What are you making?"
James rolls his eyes and turns away from the pan to look at me, "You have no patience, do you?"
I shrug my shoulders and smile at him, "Not really."
I'm standing beside him while he's cooking. I've tried to figure out what he's making, but I haven't been able to. It's been about 20 minutes of me peering over his shoulder trying to figure it out. The smirk on his face is evident.
"You like this," I look at his face.
"Maybe I do."
I cross my arms and grimace at him.
"It's the one time I know something you don't, Ms. Know-it-all," He's smiling by the end of his sentence.
"What about history? Is that not enough for ya?"
He shakes his head and laughs, "No."
I roll my eyes and walk over to the dining table. Everything was set and ready for the two of us. I sit down and pull my phone out. Gotta pass the time somehow.
"Alright, time for dinner," James singsongs a while later.
I put my phone down and wait for him to come out with the plates. I'm so hungry.
"What is it?"
"Tonight's menu consists of lamb burgers and homemade sweet potato fries."
"You know how much I love sweet potato fries!"
He laughs a little and sets the plates down, one in front of me and the other he sits behind.
"They're the girl version of fries: sweet but not too sweet," He quotes what I always say when someone judges my choice in sweet potato fries.
I nod at him and pop a sweet potato fry into my mouth. My eyes widen in surprise and I look up from my plate to look at James. Why were these so good?
"You need to make these more often," I smile and stuff my face with a couple more fries.
He bites into one and smiles, "Glad my cooking skills satisfy your palate."
"It's kinda cool that Prom was like a birthday celebration."
"Yeah," James shrugs his shoulders, "This is better though, right?"
"Definitely," I smile at him.
"Your baby shark mode is my favorite."
"Definitely worth getting all the weird stares."
James laughs and points a fry at me, "It wasn't a weird stare, even if I was staring."
I blush a little and turn back to my food.
"I wish I could relive that," I laugh a little.
"Me too, Ethan missed like all of it."
My face fall when I hear him say that. Did he just say that Ethan didn't see me during baby shark? But that's not possible. The facts don't match up. Ethan said he loved me because of baby shark. He said that because of baby shark.
My mind was spiraling. Slowly, the pieces started clicking. Ethan had left for the bathroom right before baby shark. Then, who said 'I love you'?
I stand up and walk over to the fridge. Maybe some cold water will help? Probably not. James follows suit.
