"Yo, you wanna sleepover tonight?"
"That is exactly what I need right now."
"So you're finally gonna tell me what's going on."
"Yeah, sorry," Stef frowns and looks away.
"No," I walk over and sit down on the bed beside her, "I'm sorry I've been so self involved."
"We've both been bad."
I laugh and hug her, "We're bad friends."
"Shut up."
"Come on, you hate me a little."
Stef laughs and lets go, "Who doesn't."
I slap her shoulder and gasp, "Well that's just rude."
"Let's go," Stef dismisses me, "I want to be early for once."
I get up from her bed and follow her out the door.
"Shotgun!"
"I don't understand why you do that every time I drive."
"Because I can and I think I'm funny."
"You're not very funny," Stef points out and then slides into her car.
Once I'm in with her I gasp, "James said that to me too."
"Truth hurts."
"You guys are lying."
"Really? You think we planned ahead?" Stef laughs at her own joke.
"You're not funny."
"Oh honey, I'm hilarious."
Stef turns on the music and we decide to jam out to the 2010s hits rather than talk more about who's the actual comedian of the group.
It's me.
"Are the first ones here?"
"Yeah."
"And we even stopped for donuts," I smile and take a bite.
Stef laughs and sets the boxes down on as we wait for the rest of our cult to get here. Here as in the park. It was park weekend this time around. My least favorite when it lands on a Saturday morning. I prefer it when we can stargaze not when the mosquitoes are attacking.
"Look, Timothy and Grace are here," I point out as I see Timothy's care come into the parking lot.
"How are you and Grace, by the way?"
"Tea for a different time."
"Tonight?" Stef asks.
I nod, "Hell yeah, tonight."
I wave frantically when the couple gets out and starts making its way down.
"We brought donuts!" I smile and bring over the box.
"Ooo, you got my favorite."
Stef, being the caring friend she is, had everyone's favorite donut memorized. She either really cares or really likes donuts. Probably a little bit of both.
"Grace, you gonna take one?"
"Donuts are fattening and unhealthy, no thanks."
I wrinkle my nose at her unneeded comment about donuts. It's the weekend, it doesn't count. I look to Timothy who is happily eating his donut without a care.
