"Lucy!"
"No!"
"Lucy!" My mom yells again, "You have commitments!"
I roll over in my bed, a loud grunt leaving my lips. I look at the time and see it's 7:45. It takes me a while for the time to sink in and once it does I jump into action. Running from my room to my bathroom I quickly change. Makeup, clothes, backpack, breakfast all happen at lightening speed for me to finally leave my house at 7:58.
Utter discomfort settles within me when I take notice of what's going to happen this morning. James is going to tell me how he left me to be the last single standing. Today marks the first day of my life that James will have been ahead of me in something.
Not to brag or anything, but I am significantly smarter than him. Insert hair flip and mic drop.
That's besides the point right now.
"Shit shit shit!" I yell to myself, alone in my car, as I drive to James'.
Of course I fell asleep on the one day I told him I would pick him up earlier. Thank the lords my mom remembers my plans better than I do and woke me up, however relentless I was.
"Look who decided to show up," James smiles, "Miss-8am-sharp."
"Shut up and get in the car," I don't even crack a smile.
"Not with that attitude," James continues joking.
"Do you wanna fight?" I threaten lamely.
"Maybe I do," James smirks.
I angrily get out of my car, slamming the car door shut and walk up to him. I stare straight into his eyes before jumping into action. "You messed with the wrong girl."
"I don't think I did," James doesn't even have to try to push me off him.
I snarl and attack one more time. This time I give him a forceful shove. With a triumphant smile I watch him slightly tumble back. He comes back at me with the same move, except I end up pinned to my car. James fell with me when he came at me, too much momentum and my weak ass grabbing for help didn't work out well for him.
Woah, deja vu much.
A weird warmth suddenly overcomes me on this windy day. As he looks down at me and our eyes meet. I felt lighter, like a tickle inside my stomach. I genuinely smile and let myself relax from my tense position I had taken when we started tumbling towards the car.
James looks at me then pushes away. Walking to the other side to get into the passenger seat.
"So I asked Lily to be my girlfriend at the fancy place, the only fancy place in this damn town."
Okay, just ignore whatever that was. I discreetly roll my eyes and open my door to sit in the driver's seat. Looking up at him I say, "Ah yes, so James, tell me the tale of how you are no longer a single pringle."
I pull out of his driveway and begin the journey to school. I take a few wrong turns to make sure he fits the whole story in. Getting all the details was key to listening to any story. If we were late, so be it.
"So after she said yes, she leaned in and kissed me."
Wow, PDA these days. A realization hit me like a slap: I was no longer the only one that had kissed James. "Wow, I'm assuming you kissed her back," I say, giving him a pointed look and acting calm and cool.
"Actually, it was so unexpected that by the time I was about to react she pulled away."
"James! How could you? You left her hanging there! You didn't kiss her?" I explode at his comment.
