"Yo, Lucy."
"What's up?"
"Have you decided yet?"
I look at Chase, "You were serious?"
"Yeah."
I walk closer to him and lean on the lockers.
"Sure."
His eyes go wide, "Really?"
"Really."
"Word."
I laugh at his form of thanks, "Word."
When I'm far enough away Stef comes up to me, more like runs over me. She's enthusiastic.
"Who even are you?"
I look at her with furrowed eyebrows, "I'm literally your best friend."
"You talked to Chase. Pretty Boy Chase."
"We went over this on Saturday," I roll my eyes, "He's a well known acquaintance."
"Well known, huh?" She lifts her eyebrows in a way that's supposed to be suggestive.
"Okay, no."
"So, you gonna tell me why you were talking to him?"
"He just needed something. And no, not my pussy," I clarify before she makes a whole scenario in her head.
Or she smashes his head in.
"Fine, be so mysterious," She exasperates.
"It's my best quality."
"Is James sitting with us today?" Stef randomly asks.
"Girl, if I knew what went on in that boys head my stress levels would be nonexistent."
"Alright, I'm gonna take that as a I don't know."
I smile at her, "You're the only one that understands me."
"'Cause you're my best friend, it's a requirement."
We make it to our history class. Stef goes to her seat and I just stand at the door and stare at my spot. My spot by James. He hadn't sat there since, well, the incident. I decide to stop looking like an idiot standing there at the door and start moving slowing to my seat. There was only one thing running through my mind: To sit or not to sit by him.
James is on his phone, I can't see what though. My first thought is that he's texting, or sexting, Lily. Oh, the imagery is painful.
"Hey."
"Umm, hi," I mumble.
I'm able to gain my normal confidence around him after a couple seconds go by and I'm settled in my seat, "Watcha doing?"
"I'm just perusing my apps."
He turns his phone to me and, to my surprise, he's actually telling me the truth. What catches my eyes, though, is the picture he has as his home screen. Who cares about dumb games?
It's a picture of him and I in my bed. Okay, keep your mind out of the gutter, we're just laying on my bed. I'd snuck him in that night so we could binge our favorite tv show together, Stranger Things. We are both holding up peace sign but our pinkies are interlocked. It's something we did a lot, now not as often given the circumstances, as a secret handshake. My head is leaning on his shoulder and his is tilted slightly so it's on my head. We actually kinda look like a couple. Wacky.
