"I did it."

"You did it!"

"I fucking did it!" I cheer again.

James laughs and envelops me in a hug. My arms go under his and I wrap them around his shoulders. I close my eyes briefly as my head hits his chest. Benefits of being short.

"So, what are you gonna do now that you're an accomplished woman?" He asks me when we let go.

"Eat food."

James laughs as the bell rings and he looks down at me already eating the gummy bears he had in his backpack. "How'd you know?"

"I sense the food."

He rolls his eyes and takes my hand to pull me along to the cafeteria. I smile at our hands and then up at him.

"Come on, you're paying."

"Woah woah woah," I squeeze his hand so he'll pay more attention to me, "What do you mean, I'm paying?"

"I'm craving sushi," Is all he says before we turn the wrong way and leave to the parking lot.

The heat of the summer still hadn't taken place. My hair stood when the wind picked up a little. The struggle of having low blood pressure, I'm always cold.

"You nipping there," James points out.

"And you're looking there," I snap back.

He laughs and tugs me along, "I'll give you my jacket in the car."

Once we're settled, James takes his bomber off and hands it to me, "For your nips."

I laugh but gratefully take the jacket and put it on. Yes, the warmth. I try to discretely take a whiff of the jacket and smile at the smell. It smells like him: teakwood and vanilla. Classic male.

"So, sushi?" I ask him.

"I'm craving, man."

"But where?"

"Oh, Sunset Sushi, the only sushi place in town," He laughs.

"Well, how was I supposed to know? Maybe we were just gonna buy some at Target."

"Nah, we're getting the real deal."

I look at my phone, "You realize lunch isn't that long."

"Ordering online saves the day."

"You already ordered and didn't ask me what I wanted?"

He rolls his eyes and hands me his phone, "Check for yourself, I ordered what you want."

I scroll through and see the sushi that he ordered. California, salmon, shrimp, crab. My fucking favorite sushi ever.

"You got me three of each that I like."

He takes his phone back and slides it into his pocket, "It's the only test I ever pass."

"Choosing my food?"

"Choosing your food," He nods.

-*-

"That'll be $32.46," The to-go worker says, she extends her arm to take my card and swipe it.

"I am poor," I frown to James.

He laughs and thanks the cashier as he takes the food from her. "You're fine."

"But I'm broke."

"Get a job, then."

"I don't have talent."
