"Alright. Hit me with it."

"Just like that? No rules?"

"You didn't give me rules."

I take a big bite out of my pizza slice and smile weirdly at Chase beside me. He too takes a large bite before clearing his throat and getting ready to ask away.

"Why do you ignore me when I wink at you?"

I shrug and turn to look at him, "I don't vibe with one night stands."

"I'd rather you go more into detail."

I roll my eyes, the narcissism high school has given this dude.

"Fine. I've always looked forward to something that lasts I guess," I shrug my shoulders but continue anyway, "The first time, when I was with Grace, I was asked to help her out with getting Timothy. Then, that time in Sophomore year, I was busy with Stef."

"Okay, I get it," Chase stops me.

I look at him and bite into my pizza. I raise my eyebrows mid bite.

"You look for an excuse to not find someone. It's pretty obvious," He points his pizza at me, "You've had plenty of chances but there's always a reason not to go for them. Why?"

"Way to psychoanalyze," I comment, "I guess it's like a subconscious thing. Like I know they aren't my endgame so, why try?"

"That's dumb. You're missing out on a key point of teenage life."

"Partying and girls, yes I know," I laugh.

He laughs too but quickly calms down. "I'm serious. You always talk about having a boyfriend, you forgot to go out and get one."

I set my empty plate down and contemplate what Chase just said. Maybe he was right. Maybe I am scared of commitment. Of getting hurt. Or maybe I'm just not the Pretty Girl Lucy to his Pretty Boy Chase.

Chase is more than just a pretty face though.

"Alright. Interesting ideas."

"I'm right," He interrupts.

I nod, "Say you're right. How do I change that?"

"Live a little and go for it."

"Easier said than done," I frown and look away from Chase and down to the floor.

"I'm doing it," He opens his arms to show himself off.

"You have it easy. Everyone wants a piece of you."

"You haven't."

"Generally speaking, the greater public."

Chase laughs, "Being pretty does help."

I roll my eyes and scoff, "Fuck you."

"Woah," Chase puts his hands up in surrender, "I thought we were keeping it PG."

"And I thought I'd make it through the day without punching you."

Chase gets up and takes our dirty plates to the kitchen. It's the one place he remembered from the party since that's where the drinks were.

"You think I could get a dude to fall for me?" I yell to him from where I'm at to him in the kitchen.

"I think you already have," He yells back at me before he slides back into his spot on the floor.

I shake my head to dismiss his comment. It's not worth getting a headache over right now.

"How'd you end up having a party at your house anyway?" Chase changes the subject, thankfully.
