"I love shopping with you guys."
"No, you don't."
"You're right, I don't."
We all start cracking up. Alex, Grace, Stef, and I are all at the mall from a town over for our dress shopping.
It's an exciting time. I think I've heard the word "no" more today than when we practice abstinence at school. Ah, sexual education.
"How 'bout this one?" Grace asks as she throws the curtain of the dressing open for about the 20th time.
I shake my head.
"Definitely not."
"You look like a disco ball."
Grace rolls her eyes and makes her way back into the dressing room for her next go around.
"Lucy, what about this one?" Stef grabs my attention.
I whip around to what dress she's showing me. When I say my jaw dropped, I mean my jaw is on the floor. Stef held a purple dress with intricate lace and diamonds scattered. The back was open and low cut. The front was a halter top style, the style starting down at the sides and wrapping around. It was all looked like a relatively tight fit. My hands went up and down the fabric. The layers of skirt, the low back, the tight halter top twist thing or whatever you want to call it, it was all perfect.
I smile up at Stef, "If this fits, you're officially my god."
I run to the free dressing room and slide the dress on. I look at myself in the mirror. I make different poses and try out different dance moves to make sure they all work out. I mess with my hair to see what will look best.
Cute low bun with a braid along the sides. Wow, Lucy, you're a genius.
I walk out of the dressing room and smile at the ground, "What do you guys think?"
"That you're a goddess," Alex replies.
Stef smirks, "That it's James' favorite color."
I blush at the comment. James does like purple.
"You chose that dress 'cause of James?" Grace pops her head out of the dressing room.
I sense that she's unamused with my choice. That it's in some way wrong of me to choose this gorgeous just because purple is his favorite color. It can be mine too, you know.
"She looks like a goddess," Alex says, not letting me answer.
I smile at her as a thank you. I twirl one more time.
"True," Stef laughs and then goes serious, "Buy it."
I smile and go back to take it off and pay. When I look at the price tag, my heart sinks. It's the one with the highest price tag too. I debate buying it but remember that my parents aren't home to slap me silly on my bad decisions. It'll be their early birthday present to me.
Sounds logical enough.
"Grace, you find one yet?"
"I think I did," She says from behind the curtain.
"Well, show," Alex walks over.
We're all standing in front of Grace's dressing room waiting for her to reveal the dress. According to her, it's the dress of dreams.
When the curtain is moved aside I'm met with a beautiful yellow dress. It's strapless and has intricate ruffles and layers all the way down to the floor.
"You look like you're straight out of beauty and the beast."
"Oh my god, Grace," Stef exclaims, "Timothy is going to flip."
