Fitz's POV:

"What was THAT for?" Fitz demanded the moment he and Biana reappeared in . . . Havenfield?

"Thought you'd want to see what Sophie was up to. She was—well, you can go ask. And, also, should I call her your gir—"

"BYE," Fitz said, and was about to rap on the front door of Havenfield when it opened.

He ended up knocking on Grady's forehead.

"What is up with boys these days? THIS BOY," he said to Sophie as she came down to see what the commotion was all about, "is here for some reason, and I don't want to hear it, goodbye, we're going to this human city called Washing machine today."

"Washington," Sophie corrected, "and hi, Fitz, um, nice visit?"

"Hi—" he began, but Biana appeared and frowned at Sophie's wardrobe choice. "Okay! That's not even stylish for a human! Come on, a grey T-shirt is not even—"

"Human city?" Fitz suddenly asked. "What are you doing?" he asked Sophie.

She sighed. "Have you noticed a shadow recently?"

"Yes," he answered wryly. "Biana screamed about ruined makeup for a whole day."

"Hey!" his sister protested.

"Well," Sophie continued with a weird look at them both, "it's apparently Jupiter—a planet—crashing into us."

Moment of shocked silence. "WHAT?"

". . . Yeah." Sophie said with a wince. "We have to evacuate all the humans. Not a great job."

"So this is why you haven't called us or talked to us in the past two days?" Biana nudged Sophie. "Because we were wondering why you disappeared . . ."

Sophie reddened, and hurried to say, "Um, yeah. Me and Grady and Edaline are going to go. Busy day!" A few minutes later, they were gone.

"I knew it! Biana said the moment they light leaped back to Everglen. "She did it!"

"DId what?"

"How are you so oblivious? You should be called the Oblivious Couple," Biana teased as they made their way back to the palatial manor in the center of the property. "She did it!"

"It?"

"It!"

"What's with the 'it'?" Alden frowned at them. "Oh. I thought your mom brought you to Atlantis to get more mascara. She just went there now. Where did you go, Fitz?"

"We were just—" Fitz paused, trying to think of a reasonable excuse, when the doorbell rang. Alden returned a moment later with a scroll with the official Council's seal on it. Their father's frown deepened with every word he read.

"What? Evacuation?" Biana asked, reappearing behind him. Alden didn't try to hide it. "Yes. We have to evacuate. Something called . . . " he frowned at the paper, "Jupiter is crashing into us. It's apparently a planet and might cause damage. We're to collect a bag of essentials per person and leap to Atlantis, where shelters are being dug by dwarves. We have to be there by tomorrow night," he added, reading from the scroll, "and we don't know how long we'll be there. Gnomes are packing the shelters tight with food and water, says the scroll."

"Sophie and her parents are evacuating humans," Fitz told him.

"Oh," he said. "Ah, yes, I was supposed to go too, but the Council just didn't want me to go on a mission so soon after . . . well, the troll hive and Alvar and the Neverseen. Though if the processes are moving too slow, me and your mother will also be called in."

The door opened again, and Della arrived, bags full of not only mascara, but a bunch of other products and dresses Fitz couldn't begin to name. "Oh! I heard about that notice," she said when she saw the scroll. "Do you think we can fit all these into a bag?"
