Sophie POV:

"Amy!" Sophie shrieked, running towards her sister.

Grady and Edaline were yelling at Winter, but he couldn't understand.

He gently lowered Amy to the ground, holding his talons up in a I surrender sort of position.

"Amy!" Sophie cried again.

Her sister was now hiding behind Grady and Edaline, who were shielding her.

Sophie ran to her sister, and she saw how wide her eyes were.

"Amy! Are you okay?" Sophie asked.

"Uh . . . No!" she said, still staring at Winter. "I got carried away by a dragon and brought here for no reason and I am NOT OKAY." Amy gasped, clutching her sides.

"Oh no! Did he squeeze you too hard?" Sophie worried.

"Oh, no." Amy sat on the grass and put her head between her legs. "Just a little hard to process, is all."

"It's okay. It's not everyday does someone get snatched by a dragon . . ." Sophie reassured her.

"Well, yeah. Evidently." Amy rolled her eyes, but Sophie could still see the little bit of residue fear in her eyes.

"Are you sure—" Sophie began to ask.

"Yes!" Amy interrupted, jumping to her feet to prove a point, but nearly collapsed if it weren't for Winter, who placed a claw behind Amy's back to steady her.

"Winter?" Sophie asked, sort of confused.

"I didn't mean to hurt her," Winter said guiltily. "I just wanted to see the difference."

"What difference?" Sophie asked.

"Between you guys and the scavengers we have at home." Winter gazed off into the distance, lost in his memories. "They had ragged cloth," he said unexpectedly.

"What?" Amy asked.

"He said the humans he has on his planet have . . . ragged cloth," said Sophie with a weird look at Winter. "What? I didn't say that! He did," she argued when Amy looked at her as if she were insane.

"So you understand him?" she asked, awed, as she finally took in Winter and his—hands down—majestic features and beautiful blue-and-white scales. Sophie had to admit that he was beautiful, especially with the spikes too.

"What?" Winter asked haughtily. "Am I that fascinating?"

Sophie shrugged. "I don't know. Are you?" Then she frowned. "We have to send Amy back now, though. Where did you . . . uh, get her?"

"You know you're saying hggrumph ggrawar growr, right?"

"What was that about eating caterpillars?" Winter asked.

"You were talking about eating caterpillars," Sophie translated for Amy, who gasped in horror.

"Unfortunately," Grady interrupted with an amused smile on his face, "this can't last. Amy, you can't stay here long. And Winter . . . oh. He can't understand me. But he has to recover and go back to his own planet soon. So yes, he can't leave Havenfield anymore. Especially if we want to keep this debacle a secret from the Council. Right?"

Sophie sighed. "Right. I guess I'll talk to them,"

Amy pouted, but Grady was right. "I guess we'll just have to go our separate ways again now." She sighed. "See you soon, Sophie," Amy hugged her once more, then Grady took her hand and they vanished back into the light.
