Marella POV:

Marella had never teleported before.

She thought that it involved a little concentration and then, whoosh, you were there.

Nothing could have prepared herself for the long, long drop before they got in the void.

She was pretty sure she had screamed.

A lot.

And judging from Sophie's amused face, she probably had.

Though many of the other elves had also screamed.

So hopefully Sophie was amused that most everyone had screamed, and not about her.

"Is everyone ready?" Sophie asked.

A nearly simultaneous "Yes" that wasn't all too enthusiastic responded her, so Sophie did whatever she does and . . .

Poof.

They were there.

Marella let go of Sophie and the other elf's hand she was holding, taking in the scene.

Everyone was doing the same.

They were in some sort of desert, or a savanna of some sort.

In the distance was something that looked like half tree and half building. No, many somethings . . . what were those? Why were they so big? And why were they like trees, of all things?

But around that . . .

Dragons.

Hundreds and hundreds of dragons.

Or at least Marella thought. They looked more like bees and butterflies from this distance. But she was also pretty sure they were dragons. And, now that she thought of it . . . they were only surrounding a few of those tree stick things. Odd. Why build the other ones then? If they built them. Marella had never met a dragon, and wasn't sure they were smart enough to build tree buildings. Maybe they only fought every day?

"We've got to stop staring." An elf said. "And, you know, start the attack."

"Right." Sophie gulped. "But let's try to talk to them first. Does everyone know what to do?"

Choruses of "Yeses" rang out.

"But they won't eat us?" someone called nervously, voice shaking.

"We can't be sure. That's why we have all these swords and goblin throwing stars and daggers and—"

"Yeah. I know." Marella said. "But if you look up, you'll see a dragon circling overhead, and so maybe we should get on the move already."

More gasps, and this time, cries of horror and squeaks of fear and Marella was pretty sure she also saw an elf faint. A bit much, if you asked her. "Everyone's so dramatic." she told Sophie, who was gawking at the dragon.

Sophie tried to talk to the dragon when it landed a short distance away.

But maybe she was using the wrong language.

It just sat there, staring at them, and did this thing with it's mouth.

To Marella, it looked like a creepy grin.

But to the other elves...

Well, apparently, if was a dragon's face when it decides that it wants to eat them.

So everyone took out their spears and pointed them at the dragon.

It's eyes widened, it said something, and flew in the direction of the tree- building hybrid thing.

"Well, we're scary today." someone said.

"Come on, let's go before an army comes to get us." someone else said.

As they approached the large tree structures, nine dragons flew out of one of the closest structures.

"Everyone, be on guard." Grady called.

"Hey, it's that dragon again!" Biana cried.

"I'll try talking to them, again." Sophie said.

The dragons approached, landing in front of them.

One of them stepped forwards, right in front of Sophie.

It said something, and Sophie cocked her head, translating it.

"Do you understand it?" Linh whispered.

"Yeah. I do." Sophie said, turning her attention back to the dragons.

Since their conversation was taking an immense amount of time, Marella decided to study these specimens.

Some had two wings, some had four.

Some were yellow, some were five million colors.

Some (well, one) wore glasses, some did not.

Some looked nervous, and some looked excited.

One even looked bored.

But they all were gigantic.

Like, as tall as goblins.

But way bigger.

They could crush an elf so easily.

One stomp of their feet (was that even what if was called?).

Someone dead.

It was an impossible battle.

Luckily, it seemed Sophie was having quite the luck with the black dragon.

A few minutes later, they nodded, and flew back to their tree thing.

Sophie turned to them.

"They won't attack us!"
