Fitz POV:

"So we'll leap over to Everglen to get all of mine and Alvar's human clothes from when we found Sophie, then . . . Havenfield." Fitz paused.

"Do Grady and Edaline . . . know? About Sophie?" Jensi asked.

Fitz winced. "Uh, I'm not sure. I guess?"

"That's not good," Jensi mused.

"Of course not!" Fitz exclaimed. "They'll be so . . ."

"Like when Jolie happened." Jensi finished solemnly.

"Oh!" came a voice.

"What?" someone else asked.

"Look!" Linh cried so loud, startling even the dragons. She was on an Imparter call with Dex, who was due to be back any minute, and was pointing at Dex's gadget to track their friends with the Neverseen.

"WHAT?" Dex all but shouted over the loud wingbeats on his end of the call.

"AT THE FLAMES! THEY'RE BURNING PURPLE!"

Fitz and Jensi ran over. Linh's hand was shaking as she pointed at what seemed like a chandelier (which brought back rather embarrassing memories) with candles burning a bright purple the exact same shade as the nightshade.

Wait. The exact same shade as the nightshade.

Jensi and Dex got it at the exact same time. "Nightshade!" All three boys yelled simultaneously.

Linh nodded shakily.

Maruca's feed switched to some purple fires that suddenly encircled the perimeter of the cave-like room. Purple flames.

"We're practicing a full-body temperature regulation. Partner up and find a flame. Then practice walking through it without getting a single burn or sweating. When you get out, it will be best if you're shivering. Call me when you're ready for the assessment." Glimmer said.

Maruca found Biana, and the two girls scurried to the nearest flame under Glimmer's watchful gaze.

"Where's Marella?" Biana hissed.

"Don't know," Maruca whispered back while pretending to practice sticking an arm into the fire. "Saw her a little while ago in her room before training. With her crystal."

"Do you think she was caught?" Biana asked back, sticking her own arm into the fire and yanking it back out when she singed her black cloak.

"I hope not," Maruca seemed to frown. "Come to think of it, I didn't see her with the group when we came here."

"I hope she's okay. She would have aced this." Biana said.

"Of course. She's a Pyrokinetic. Immune to flames, after all." Maruca's feed caught Biana giving the other girl a small smile.

A lump caught in Fitz's throat. Biana was in there. Getting burned and forced to do the Neverseen's bidding. And here he was, just staring at her. He should be storming the hideout! Fighting the bad guys to get her back! If only he knew where the insidious thing was.

Dex frowned. "Marella's missing. It has to do with that thing that knocked her into the wall."

"She was knocked into a wall?" Jensi asked. "How? With wind? That could have been Guster, then. Or maybe telekinesis? Ooh, it also has to be a member of the Neverseen. No one else would do that. What Guster Neverseen members do we know?" he inquired.

"Trix," Fitz and Dex said at the same time. Dex scowled.

"We don't even know his real name. And maybe it wasn't a Guster. Maybe it was strong telekinesis." Fitz said.
