Kinkajou POV:

It was dark in the rainforest. Kinkajou had never been happier than to fall asleep in her very own hammock. Jerboa's hut was SO squishy, and although Moon was a peaceful sleeper (at least, when she wasn't having vision-dreams), it wasn't the same as having your own space.

But then again, the elves were also much more peaceful sleepers in Jerboa's hut. Tonight, Kinkajou couldn't stop hearing chittering nodded coming from her tree hollow.

Which she SO BRAVELY gave up for the elves.

Was 'bravely' even the right word? Well that's what she got for skipping school for ages. Ah well. This was TEN TIMES AS FUN!

Kinkajou had been dreaming about dancing pineapples with blueberries for eyes and bananas for mouths. They were also—

KINKAJOU! went a voice in her mind that sounded suspiciously like that Sophie elf.

The pineapples danced on.

KINKAJOU, WAKE UP! A pineapple screamed. Wait, pineapples couldn't talk.

KINKAJOUShe had had enough. The pineapples wouldn't stop screaming at her, so she'd MAKE THEM DISAPPEAR.

In other words, she woke up.

"Oh, finally," said a voice that was probably Glory. Wait, why was Glory on her platform? She had that fancy royal one! Kinkajou wished hers was as decorated and pretty and—

"Are you sure she's awake? She looks like she's still dreaming." That was definitely Deathbringer, snarky as ever.

"She had been dreaming of dancing pineapples a few seconds ago," said the Sophie elf.

"What?" Glory and Deathbringer asked simultaneously.

"They were AWESOME!" Kinkajou supplied. "With blueberries for eyes and bananas for"

"You're awake!" Glory exclaimed exasperatedly. "Now the elves are in a hurry. Half will stay here to find any plant relatives to the nightshade and the breath of evil, although personally why would anyone name a plant that? You will go with them. The rest are going back to their planet to help fight some group called the Alwaysseen."

"It's actually the Neverseen," Sophie corrected.

"Aw, why can't I go to the other planet?" Kinkajou whined. "It was SO COOL with sparkly huts and—"

"The elves need a guide and you are the only one who knows them." Glory said. "And don't argue with your queen."

"You know I'm your BEST FRIEND," Kinkajou said, batting her eyes.

"Kinkajou," Glory said in a stern voice and a raised eyebrow.

"Awww," Kinkajou pouted. "But—"

"BYE, Kinkajou," Glory said before taking off with Deathbringer in tow.

"WHAT?" Kinkajou yelled after them. "THAT'S SO NOT FAIR!"

"Life's never fair!" Glory yelled over her shoulder. "Go now!"

"Hey," said the elf who made the translator. "Don't worry, of course it's Sophie, Biana and Wonderboy going to Foxfire. Welcome to the band of misfits," he smiled sadly at her.

The other boy scowled at the use of the word 'Wonderboy.'

"Well," said Sophie, rather awkwardly. "We'll get going. I'll transmit to you guys soon, okay?"

Sophie grabbed Biana and Wonderboy and jumped off the tree, making Kinkajou stare with ehr mouth open after them, startled. Kinkajou watched them go, wondering if she should pull a Willow.

Which meant hitchhiking through the void to the elvin planet. But Moon, Turtle, Qibli, Winter and even Anemone would hunt her down. And three of them were on bed rest.

Kinkajou wasn't sure how long she stared at the jungle floor, sulking, but eventually she felt a small tap on her tail.

"We should go," said a blonde elf. The three looked sort of awkward standing there, and Kinkajou realized they were waiting for her.

"Right," she mumbled. "Let's go to the creepy hole to the old NightWing kingdom. It's the CREEPIEST place ever." She added, forcing some cheer into her voice.

"Do you mind . . ." Translator Guy said, gesturing to her back. The elves climbed on when she crouched, and a few minutes later, they were in front of the tree hollow that led to the NightWing kingdom.

"It's a volcanic island," Kinkajou explained. "I don't know how anything can grow there, so maybe you can search this clearing?" She suggested.

The blonde elf shook her head, though. "I can probably see if the Neverseen hid something under all the fire. Volcano, you said? Lava is similar to Everblaze. Maybe that's something,"

"You can control FIRE?" Kinkajou gasped. "WHOA."

The small group trudged slowly through the tunnel, and Kinkajou couldn't stop the involuntary shiver she got when she passed the corpse of the big NightWing, Morrowseer, who partially blocked the tunnel.

The elves didn't seem too pleased either.

Kinkajou was trying hard not to dredge up memories of her time here, so she closed her eyes. Then almost tripped on the three tiny figures standing on the edge of the tunnel.

"What are you guys standing here for? Why don't you—WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

One of the elves was straining to lift all the lava on the island, and wrapping it into one huge ball above the volcano. It was insanely terrifying.

"You've got it, Marella! Just throw it out to sea!" The other female said.

Marella thrust her arms forward with such force she would have toppled out of the tunnel if it hadn't been for Dex, who grabbed her arm.

Kinkajou watched in awe as the ball of lava hurtles out to sea, leaving only one small puddle by the volcano.

"I left that so we could see if the Neverseen did anything to it," Marella explained, "and perhaps we should bring some of it back to the Black Swan."

The other elves nodded in agreement, before they levitated over to the puddle of lava.

But Kinkajou was more fixated on something else. She had seen something odd. The ocean was not cooling the lava. It was absorbing it.

And when all the lava was submerged into the water...

A huge ball of flowers—no, nightshade—came hurtling back at the island with terrifying speed. Kinkajou only had the time to say, "LOOK OUT!" and launch herself out of the tunnel to the elves before the flower bomb exploded on the island.
