Lady Gisela POV:
"She escaped?" Lady Gisela frowned at Gethen.
"I've put that traitor Vacker in the prisons. I still don't understand why you need so many new recruits, much less ones who aren't really loyal," he countered.
"I was asking about the Moonlark, and what my plans are about are none of your business. I know I've been shutting out even key members this time, but if this stage of the plan goes wrong then the whole thing is ruined. Everything needs to be perfect, and I will not have anyone meddling with it." she turned her back on Gethen, who glared at her.
"That Vacker boy, the Technopath and the Hydrokinetic were here. They took her," Gethen all but growled.
"Thank you for the information. I wished you'd gotten them, too, but I suppose that's the problem with an organization with too many leaders." sighed Gisela. "At least now you have me,"
"You're just another of the too many leaders," Gethen argued. "First Fintan with his absurd visions, then there was you again. Then you said you'd changed your plans, and then—"
"—you turned me in to the ogres," Gisela finished dryly. Gethen didn't flinch.
"Then Fintan was back, with his fire fantasies, then he's captured. You're back, with that Vespera. She loves testing humans, which isn't even the point of the Neverseen. Then you betray her, and come back with some weird nightshade plants. The Neverseen doesn't know what's happening, but our organization is obviously no longer stable."
"This is none of your concern," Lady Gisela began flipping rapidly through a book of Vespera's. "I suppose I don't need the Moonlark, but now that she's back it can give the Black Swan motivation to rescue their other members. Those prodigies. But them . . . I need them,"
"The Moonlark doesn't have her memories. We do. She won't—can't—remember," Gethen replied. "She can be a motivation but without those memories she's useless."
"You're the one who told me you heard her transmitting a few times," she frowned at him.
"I heard her say that she healed your son, and that was it," Gethen said. "She said it to that Vacker boy. Ugh, why did you even want Orem? He's just as bad as that boy,"
"Again, none of your concern. But what is, though, is the fact that that boy knows."
"You never said what a problem was! You never even mentioned the point of your plan," Gethen said, finally losing his composure. He paced noisily around the small, dark room. "If need be, I can go there and erase that memory tomorrow."
"It's too late. The moment they realized that Sophie has lost her memories, Fitz will begin remembering what she told him before she lost them. She could have said too much. But if you say that that was the only thing she said . . ."—Lady Gisela didn't look like she believed him—". . .then I suppose that will be fine. Adjustments will be made. But make sure that you and the guards of the East Wing are well aware that a threat may be coming. Add another twenty guards for good measure. Oh, and to the West Wing as well. The elves from the prodigy recruitment letters are there now, I believe."
"Twenty guards to both wings?" Gethen said, surprised. "That's a little much, and that would be a whole quarter of the members we have here. They all already have a role in the next stage—"
"—then go bring some more people from the remaining hideouts. They don't have a role. Assign a guard to each new member. Tell them not to let the recruit out of their sight. This is very important. More important than the next stage, if you want to know,"
