Willow POV:
"We should go back. To, you know, the other planet. Marella, Maruca, and Dex are still there. They must be worried," said Linh. She, Fitz and Jensi (he'd insisted on coming and helping)—and, of course, the awesome Willow—were in Everglen, some fancy elvin house that apparently belonged to Fitz. And his family. Not just Fitz.
"Okay," Fitz said slowly. "Okay. But how? We don't have Sophie anymore. We can't teleport. So are we supposed to try lightleaping? What if we fade?"
"What's 'fade' mean?" Willow interrupted.
Linh blanched. "Um, when your body doesn't reform properly after you lightleap. You end up fading away. Dying. Wylie's mom faded away,"
After that was said, no one said anything for a long time. Willow regretted bringing it up. "Sorry," she murmured.
"Well," Linh looked a little sadder than she had been a few minutes ago, "we should try it anyways. Maybe wear a nexus or something. We need to know if we can do it or not. I mean, we can't always rely on Sophie, if you get what I mean."
"And I can fly into the dome. It doesn't hurt. But it's hard to fly vertical." Willow pointed out. "And it's wet. We can only enter through the ocean, and I do not want to crash into land when I get back to my planet."
"Okay," Fitz repeated. It's all he's been saying the whole day. "So we go get some old nexuses. I have a few. I'll go tell my parents where we're going. Oh, any maybe this time we should bring the bodyguards."
"They weren't allowed last time," Linh explained when Willow frowned again.
"It's about time!" a voice yelled.
Six big creature and a small one stomped towards them. The one who had yelled, some creature that had tattoos on her forehead and pink pigtails, put her clawed hands on her hips. "I heard my charge got stolen. Good job!"
Then she spotted Willow and gasped. "A dragon?" she asked.
"Should we kill it?" asked the other creature like her. He was just a bit more bumpy. With matching tattoos, and a spiky underwear. What?
"Excuse me?" Willow lashed her tail. "Kill me?"
"It talks!" said the female bumpy thing.
"Yeah. Dex made a translator. It's in the other planet though," Fitz explained.
"Really? Where? Translator? How?" asked Jensi, with his rapid-fire speech. He continued rattling about until Linh gently put a hand on his shoulder to ask him to stop.
"This is Willow, guys," she introduced. "Willow, this is Sandor and Grizel—girlfriend and boyfriend, if you don't mind me adding—and Bo and Ro, married ogres. Finally, Flori. A gnome. Ah, and Sandor and Grizel and Lovise and Woltzer over there are all goblins. And, well, I'm not sure if Queen Nubiti sent a replacement for herself yet for Sophie. Did she?" she asked the goblins.
"No," Sandor replied. "She's still busy organizing her cities. So all we have is me, Bo, and Flori from Sophie's original quintet. Tarina still wasn't allowed to come back. Maybe soon."
"Tarina is a troll," Linh said to Willow. "Sandor, Bo, Flori, Tarina and Nubiti are Sophie's bodyguards. But Tarina wasn't allowed into the Lost Cities for . . . ah, issues, and Nubiti became Queen of the dwarves when the last king was arrested for high treason. Ro is Keefe's bodyguard, which explains her slight anger—"
"—Uh, that Elwin tells me to go back to the Waves of Wimpiness for a week because I'm scaring the prodigies and then those Neverseen people decided to attack that week. Great job. Sarcasm noted."
