You blinked your eyes open and glanced up to see Grizz already awake and smiling down at you. You laid your head back down on his chest and sighed contentedly, hoping he would want to stay in bed a little longer.
"Morning sleepyhead," he whispered, and you hummed in response. "You know I hate to move you, but we have to get up soon. I have a shift for The Guard in an hour."
"No," you pouted, pulling yourself closer into his warm body. Mornings were the only time that you could actually be with each other. The others didn't know that you had been dating and you wanted to keep it that way; otherwise things would just be too awkward.
Suddenly, there was banging on the bedroom door and Gordie was yelling on the other side. You quickly hopped down to the mattress on the floor, where everyone thought you had been sleeping, and made yourself look comfortable before Grizz called for him to come in.
Gordie flung the door open, breathless, and seemed confused to see you on the floor but quickly shook it away. "You guys have to get downstairs, now. We know who killed Cassandra."
————————
"Is everyone here?" Gordie was pacing around the room and no amount of Allie's tea could calm him down. She pushed a mug into your hands and shoved Gordie towards a chair.
"No, Grizz is still getting dressed," you said, graciously accepting the mug.
Luke smirked, leaning against the counter beside you. "Speaking of, I think he's probably missing his shirt." You looked confused, and he pinched the fabric of the familiar green sweatshirt between his fingers. "Isn't this his?"
You mentally slapped yourself for being so careless and tried to seem nonchalant. "Oh, yeah it is. He let me borrow it because I don't really have anything warm here."
The answer seemed to satisfy Luke and he started to rummage through the cabinets as Grizz bounded down the stairs, taking a seat beside you and letting his knee brush against yours. You hid your smile and turned your full attention towards Gordie, who seemed about ready to explode if he didn't start talking soon.
"Alright Gordie, what did Harry say to you?" Will was sitting on your other side and he looked intently at Gordie.
Gordie leaned towards him, his face stony. "He said we have to look for a gun at Dewey's house."
Grizz's look of shock probably matched your own and he shook his head in disbelief. "Dewey, like Greg?" He was about to say something else before he glanced past Gordie to where Luke had stopped opening the cabinets. "Hey, are you seriously making a protein shake right now?"
Luke looked sheepish and put the powder down, walking over to the island where everyone else was gathered.
"Can we even trust him?" You directed the question at Allie, and she shrugged, taking a seat.
"Yeah, why didn't Harry come tell us himself? And why Cassandra? Greg didn't even know her, why would he care?"
Grizz took a breath and tried to come up with a logical explanation. "Maybe Harry put him up to it? Maybe he made him confess to take the heat off himself?"
You shook your head, not sure whether you were ready to commit to this idea yet. "I don't know guys. Do we actually believe that nerdy little Greg Dewey is capable of murder?"
"Look, it's going to sound weird but I think I believe him. When he came up to me he seemed upset," Gordie said.
Will piped up from beside you, his tone and face completely serious. "It doesn't matter. We have to arrest Dewey."
Allie shook her head in disbelief. "Arrest him? What, just go nab him off the street?"
"We can't do that," Becca said, attempting to be the voice of reason. "What if Harry's lying?"
Will shook his head at her question. "We can't take any chances. Dewey could hurt somebody. We have to arrest him and search his house for the gun."
There was silence for a minute before Allie looked between Grizz and Luke. "Could you handle something like that?"
Luke hesitated but nodded. "I mean, yeah, if we got up early in the morning."
"Like a pre-dawn raid," Grizz offered. Luke nodded and continued talking but Grizz cut him off. "I have handcuffs."
The island grew quiet, and you felt yourself tense at his statement, drinking tea to hide your embarrassment . Luke gave him a confused look. "You mean actual handcuffs? Or handcuffs you get with a Halloween costume from Walgreens?"
"Nope. Actual handcuffs."
Every person in the room looked at you with raised eyebrows and you choked in surprise. Grizz quickly patted your back, and you tried to shake it off. "Why are you all looking at me?"
"You think we don't know that you guys are together? Come on, we're not oblivious," Becca said, smiling at you. Your mouth dropped open, and Grizz's expression matched yours.
"I thought we were sneaky!" Grizz looked at Luke who was chuckling. "What, we weren't?"
"Absolutely not dude!" Gordie's tensed expression eased a little and the group shared a much needed laugh. "You guys cuddle on the couch in broad daylight!"
"And the way you look at each other? No way you were just friends," Allie said with a smile. "You're cute together."
You blushed and Grizz smiled, pulling your chair close to his. "Well, it's a relief that everyone knows. Now I can kiss you whenever I want!"
