You set your backpack down in the corner of the room and glanced around. A person's room says a lot about them and you wanted to know as much about Grizz as possible seeing as you were total strangers and about to sleep in the same room.

He had a few football trophies on the top shelf of a bookcase and the rest of the shelves were shoved full of old-looking paperbacks with titles that you had never heard of. You took a step closer and ran your finger along the spines as you skimmed the authors. You hadn't really pegged the football star to be a fan of books, much less books that require you to think a lot.

"Guilty pleasure," you heard a voice say from the door and you spun around to see Grizz holding extra pillows and blankets. "I don't let people see the tortured artist side of me, so you should feel pretty special."

You smiled and nodded, pointing to one of the ones that looked more beat-up than the rest. "Cicero?"

"My favorite," he said, scrunching his nose up when he smiled.

Of course you had liked him in high school. Who didn't? He was cute and nice enough, tossing smiles to everyone in the hallways. And you would be lying if you said you didn't go to the football games just to see him in his football pants.

He snapped you out of your thoughts by tossing a pillow towards you. "I thought maybe I could sleep on the floor and you could take bed?"

"No, I can sleep on the floor. It's nice of you to even let me stay here. I know it isn't the ideal situation." Houses were getting more crowded and you had nowhere else to go. Of course, the only place not fully occupied was his bedroom.

"No, you aren't sleeping on the floor! I would never make a girl sleep on the floor when there is a perfectly good bed right there," he said, already making a make-shift mattress out of blankets at the foot of the bed.

You hesitated, not wanting to seem weird by the suggestion you were going to make but you really hated that you were putting him out of his own bed. "I mean we can both sleep in the bed if that's okay with you," you said, the words coming out rushed.

He raised his eyebrows at you and shrugged, seeming reluctant which you didn't blame him for. I mean, he probably had some gorgeous girl wrapped around his figure and you were not about to be a homewrecker. Who are you kidding, he probably wouldn't want anything to do with you even if he didn't have a girl.

"I mean, we could make a little pillow wall, so it wouldn't be as awkward," you suggested, waving the pillow you had been holding. He finally nodded and smiled and relief swarmed your body.

You both set to work, piling pillows up until you had a barrier that was tall enough to make both of you more comfortable. "Looks perfect," he said, glancing to you. You just nodded in approval and grabbed your pajamas from your bag, heading to the bathroom to change.

When you were finished, you walked back down the hall, but stalled in the doorway. Grizz had slipped on a pair of sweatpants and was just pulling his t-shirt off as you arrived. You watched the muscles in his back twitch with the movement and rolled your eyes at yourself. How much creepier could you get?

You cleared your throat as you walked through the door, and he quickly tugged on another shirt, not realizing you had already seen him. You shoved your clothes into your backpack and placed your hand over the light switch. "Off?"

He hesitated a minute before nodding and you flicked it off, feeling your way around the room until you felt the empty mattress. You pulled the comforter up to your chin, trying to forget where you were and the attractive boy sleeping right beside you.

You frowned as you blinked your eyes open, glancing to the clock on Grizz's bedside table. It was four o'clock in the morning and there was no reason you should be awake but you heard soft, almost inaudible sobs coming from the other side of the bed.

You turned over and squinted, finding Grizz sitting up on the edge of the bed. You cleared your throat and sat up too, not wanting to scare him. He turned his head to the side a little but didn't move from his spot.

"Are you okay?" You dismantled a portion of the pillow wall and crawled over to sit beside him. He nodded noiselessly and you leaned over to turn on his bedside lamp. Now, you could see his tear stained cheeks and see him trembling. "Hey," you whispered, concerned now about what could have shaken him up so badly.

"Sorry," he whispered, avoiding eye contact with you. You tentatively placed a hand on his upper arm and he leaned into your touch.

"What happened?" You didn't want to push him but he was obviously upset and you wanted to help him.

"Nothing it's just that," he said, trailing off. "I have these dreams about Dewey."

"The guy that was executed?" He nodded and took a deep breath.

"I didn't kill him, but I still feel so guilty. Like I shouldn't have let them do it. Like it wasn't fair even though I know it was. But I have no right to feel guilty because I was a coward and I couldn't even pull the trigger," he said, rambling quickly and you were barely able to keep up.

"Hey," you whispered, tilting his head towards you. You wiped the tears from his face and smiled, trying to comfort him in some way. "You aren't a coward. And you shouldn't feel guilty. Dewey showed no remorse when he shot Cassandra, right?"

He nodded and took a deep breath, grabbing my hand and squeezing gently. "Thanks."

"No problem. Now just lay down and go back to sleep," I said, leaning again to switch off the light. He blocked me from reaching it and a blush crept up his face.

"Do you think it's okay if I leave that on? If it's going to bother you I can shut it off but it makes me feel better having some light." You nodded and started to build the pillow wall. Again he grabbed your hands and you gave him a questioning look. "And do you think we could take these down? I mean, knowing you're close makes me feel a little better."

You raised your eyebrows in surprise and he started to shake his head.

"No, no, nevermind, forget I said that." He grabbed the pillows and started to put them back where they were, but it was your turn to stop him.

"Let's take it down," you said with a shy smile. He looked relieved as you helped remove the pillows. You patted your lap and he looked surprised before settling his head down. You pushed your fingers through his hair and he hummed in response. "I won't go to sleep until you do."

"Thank you for doing this. I mean, you're a really nice girl," he said, trailing off sleepily. You smiled down at him and sighed, enjoying this perfect moment.
