"Can you stop being an annoying know-it-all for two seconds and listen to what I have to say for once?" Harry was glaring at Cassandra as she shoved his hands away from the poster board. "This is a partner project, emphasis on the partner.""You always try to take the easy way out and that isn't how I work Harry," she sighed as she swiped everything off of the board and began to rearrange it the way she liked it.
Harry threw his hands up in frustration and snatched the print outs from her hands. "Stop acting high and mighty! It's annoying and it really makes me want to punch you!" Cassandra looked shocked at his outburst but he just looked down and began to place the pictures.
"Harry," she tried but he gave her a hard stare, making her stop talking immediately.
"What are you guys yelling about?" Allie had changed into her pajamas as soon as she got home from school, and Harry tried not to notice how good she looked in sweatpants.
"Harry is being annoying," Cassandra pouted, knowing her sister disliked Harry as much as she did.
"And Cassandra's being annoying. What's new," he mumbled, his tounge poking out of his mouth in frustration as he bent closer the to paper. Allie almost giggled at the action but stopped herself when she remembered that she wasn't supposed to think anything Harry did was remotely cute. He was always rude to her and Cassandra, and right now was no exception.
Allie walked over to where the pair were sitting on the floor and looked over Harry's shoulder. "Yeah, your placement sucks. Just let Cassandra do it." He gave an irritated huff as Cassandra pulled the board closer to her.
"Then why am I even here?"
"Just to look pretty," Allie shrugged, sitting down on the couch and watching him smirk at her.
"So you think I'm pretty?"
As much as she wanted to say yes, she scoffed and tried her best to roll her eyes. "Well, let's just say you aren't doing your job too well." It was obviously a lie though as she watched him smile and push his hand through his thick waves of hair. In his frustration he had been running his hands throught it, making it messier than normal but not any less attractive.
Allie was pulled from her thoughts when Cassandra started screaming at Harry and she jumped up to do damage control. "Stop guys! Honesty, you're worse than little kids! Just let me do the project with Harry."
"Isn't Will your partner?" Cassandra's face was flushed with anger as she gave Allie a confused look.
"Yes, but I will let you take credit for all my hard work if it means I don't have to listen to you two anymore," she sighed, shooing Cassandra out of the room and up the stairs. She tried to argue but Allie continued to push her until she gave in and closed her bedroom door behind her. "Finally."
"You don't have to do any work. I have it all covered," Harry said but Allie shook her head. "Don't be like Cassandra," he pouted but Allie just laughed and shook her head again.
"You're going to learn team work instead of screaming insults at each other until the other one gives in. We'll split the board down the middle and each have a side to work on. That way we're both happy." Allie drew a light line down the board with a pencil and began to work on her side.
"You're nicer than Cassandra," he commented as he began laying out his pictures. Allie looked up to see his tongue poking out again and smiled. It was so cute how that was his concentration face, and she ducked her head before he could notice her blush.
"No, I'm just trying to get this done as fast as possible so you can leave," she said, but she had a feeling he knew that wasn't true. He scooted closer to her, and she told herself to move away, but her body didn't listen.
He smirked at her lack of movement and scooted over a little more. "Do you have personal space problems?"
"Usually," she whispered, forcing him to lean close to hear what she was saying.
"Except with me?" She shrugged and continued to look anywhere but at him. "Look, I think we both know that we like each other."
He said it so boldly and Allie almost choked at his statement. "What are you talking about?"
"Don't lie to me Allie. I have liked you for a while and I think maybe you like me too."
"And why would you think that?" Only recently had Allie found out about her true feelings for Harry, and as much as she hated to admit it, the only reason she had never acted on them was because Cassandra would disapprove of a relationship with him.
"You disagree with everything I say and find every chance to put me down." He looked smug and Allie met his eyes for the first time since she had sat down.
"Sounds like the signs of a person not being liked," she said, smiling but gave him a confused look when he pointed at her.
"The words themselves sound like that but then you give me that flirty smile and bat your lashes and make me think that maybe we're meant to be more than friends." She shook her head but felt the blush on her cheeks give her away. "And let me take a wild guess. You don't want to date me because Cassandra doesn't like me."
"That wouldn't be the only reason," she shrugged and Harry gave her an expectant look. "We just wouldn't be good together. We are polar opposites." He held up his hand to say something and Allie shook his head. "And don't say opposties attract."
"See, you know what I'm going to say before I even say it." He was giving her such an open smile that she could feel the cold exterior she was trying to build start to melt away. "It took a lot of guts for me to even bring this up so the least you can do is tell me you feel the same and that we can try."
Allie took a deep breath and closed her eyes, thinking about how she had been pushing her feelings away for long enough. When she opened them, Harry was still staring at her and she nodded lightly. "I guess I sort of like you too."
"And?"
"And we can try to make it work."
"See, now was that so hard?" He was back to his cocky attitude and Allie smiled openly. Who knew "sworn enemies" could turn into something so different?
