"There you are!" You jogged over to where Grizz was sitting with his girlfriend Rebecca at one of the picnic tables set up outside the cafeteria. "I've been looking for you all afternoon."

"Hey, having fun?"

Allie had organized a little picnic for a pick me up since everyone's spirits had been kind of down lately, and for the first time since this whole mess started, everyone was sort of having fun.

"I'd be having more fun if my best friend wasn't avoiding me," you teased. You sat down beside Grizz and gave him a big smile. Your smile faded when you turned to see Rebecca's bored face. "Are you having fun?"

"I suppose," she said, looking down at her fingernails and sounding bored with talking to me already. "I would much rather be tanning right now but Gareth just insisted on participating in this dumb 'party'."

You gave her a tight smile. She refused to call him Grizz like everyone else and preferred his real name instead. When you were little he hated when people used his real name, but when Rebecca did it, he claimed he loved it.

"I just think it's nice that everyone is coming together. We need to support each other right now," he said, reaching across the table to grab her hand, but she brushed him off and rolled her eyes.

"Wanna go play cornhole?" You chose to ignore Rebecca and focused on trying to have fun with Grizz, but he just shook his head. "Fine, I'll go find someone else to have fun with."

He gave a small smile and waved, watching me go to Luke and Helena to join their game. "Maybe we should go play too? It looks fun," he said but Rebecca just scoffed and continued inspecting her fresh manicure. She claimed to have a headache and left without giving Grizz a chance to say goodbye.

"Dude, you look like you just got dumped," Clark said, clapping him on the shoulder as he took Rebecca's seat. Grizz shook his head and glanced over at you again, laughing and tossing a bean bag to hit Luke in the back of the head when he wasn't paying attention. "She's your type."

He was shocked at the comment and looked at Clark's smug face. "What?"

"I don't know why you think Rebecca is so great, but (Y/N) is your type and is so obviously in love with you. How long are you going to let her pine over you until you finally see that you love her too?"

"She's like my sister! And she's not my type." Grizz's defensive tone made him sound guilty, but Clark only held his hands up in defense and shrugged. Grizz glanced once again at you and waved when you smiled over at him. He ignored the small flutter of his heart, and pushed the thoughts Clark had put in his mind away.

"Where's the ice queen?" You were hot but were in such a good mood after beating Jason in cornhole that you decided to taunt Grizz just a little bit. Jason laughed at the joke, but Grizz glared at the both of you.

"Not feeling well. Don't be mean."

"Tell that to her," you mumbled.

"Why can't you ever say anything nice about her? I thought my best friend would be happy that I found someone who makes me happy?" His outburst made you frown, and Jason quietly slipped away from the table, leaving you to deal with the fuming boy.

"Maybe because she isn't nice? Grizz, she's horrible to everyone, even you." He frowned and shook his head, but you kept talking. "Don't argue with me! She finds every opportunity to put people down, and no offense, but I don't think she even loves you!"

He was shocked into silence at your words, but quickly recovered and furrowed his eyebrows together. "You're just jealous because no one likes you and I finally found someone." His words hurt but you tried not to show it as he continued. "If you hate her so much just don't talk to her!"

"But if I ever want to be around you, I have to be around her! I can never have you to myself anymore, and I miss us hanging out, just us. I feel like I'm losing you and I love you! You're basically choosing her over me, and do you know how much that hurts?"

"What?" His anger had completely melted away and you gasped, realizing what you had just said. Your intention was never to let your feelings for Grizz slip out, but it was the only thing you could think to say in the heat of the moment.

"Nothing," you whispered, turning and leaving as quickly as possible. You ran into the open doors of the cafeteria, running into Jason who was staring wide-eyed at you. "I can't believe I just did that," you whimpered.

Jason pulled you tightly into him and kissed the top of your head. "Hey, it's okay."

"I embarrassed myself," you said, pulling away and sitting down in a chair, your head in your hands. Jason put his hand on your back and rubbed in small circles. You had a feeling that when he stopped it was because Grizz came in.

He left silently and you felt another hand replace his. You shrugged away and kept your face hidden, but Grizz's gentle tone made you look up. "What was that all about?"

"Please, for the sake of my pride, can we forget that happened?" He shook his head slowly and you took a deep breath. "I hate seeing her be so mean to you when I know I would treat you so much better. But you never noticed me."

"Of course I noticed you. You're my best friend." You gave him a pointed look and he nodded. "I never thought of you like that before though."

"It's okay. I never meant to tell you anyway, it just slipped out. And now everything between us is going to be all awkward and ruined."

Grizz shook his head and tentatively reached for your hand. "Nothing is awkward or ruined. You actually might have made me see something that I wouldn't otherwise have paid attention to. Well, you and Clark." You gave him a confused look and he continued. "You are so much more fun and sweet and compassionate than Rebecca. And you're right, she is mean."

"But you love her," you whispered.

Grizz shrugged and squeezed your hand tighter. "Maybe I don't really know what love is. And maybe you can show me." You stared blankly and he smiled. "I'm willing to try if you are."

You wrapped your arms around his neck and smiled. "Me too."
