"Still avoiding us?" You jumped at the sudden presence of Harry and Jason at either side of you. You closed the book you had been reading on the front lawn of the school and smiled.

"How could I avoid my two best friends in the whole world?" You reached to give Harry's cheek an affectionate pinch, but he dodged your hand and frowned.

"If we really were your best friends you would be hanging out with us a lot more," he pouted. Jason nodded and mimicked his facial expression.

You twisted your mouth and nodded, playing with the pages to avoid looking at them. Although they were joking, you felt bad that you hadn't hung out with them in awhile. If you were being honest with yourself it was Campbell's fault.

It's not that he didn't trust you; he knew you loved him and he loved you just as much. He was just an anxious person and would rather you not hang out with your guy friends without him.

"I know. Campbell and I have just been hanging out a lot," you said, trying to come up with an excuse. Jason and Harry exchanged a look and you frowned at them. "What was that for?"

"You don't have to lie for him. We know what he's like." Jason shrugged, causing you to frown. "He's a jealous person."

"No he isn't," you said, but even you could tell how unconvincing you sounded. Harry bit back a laugh and you slapped him. "Stop! Maybe he is a little jealous but that's just because he loves me."

"Yeah, okay," Jason said, eyebrows raised. "Maybe we could all hang out tonight? Campbell can even come so he can watch us closely."

You smiled and nodded. "Sounds fun! I'll text you guys later then?" They both nodded with a smile and waved as you practically skipped home.

Campbell was laying on the couch, his arm covering his eyes as you bounded in. "Hey hot stuff!" He winced at the sudden burst of noise and squinted one eye open.

"Hey loud stuff, can we chill a little? I have a headache. Why so excited?" You sat beside him and shrugged.

"Harry and Jason wanted to know if we wanted to hang out tonight? I think Allie and Elle might be there too." Campbell's expression went stony quickly but you tried not to let it ruin your mood.

"You hung out with them today?" His jaw was set and you frowned. "Haven't we talked about this before?"

"We didn't really hang out. We just talked a little," you said, your voice quieter now. "Can we go?

"I'm tired," he said, pulling away from you and walking back the hall.

"Can I go?"

He turned, a deep frown on his face and he shrugged. "I don't care, do what you want."

The slam of his door made you think he probably did care, but he wasn't in control of your life. You decided to go anyway; Campbell wasn't going to ruin your fun.

When Harry saw you walking into his backyard, he jumped up and ran full force at you, picking you up and throwing you over his shoulder. You giggled at his excitement and allowed him to carry you to a chair on the deck.

"You came! And no bodyguard with you?" Jason was teasing you and you rolled your eyes.

"He had a headache but he didn't care if I came," you replied. Elle, who was sitting in the chair beside Jason, gave a slight noise of disapproval and you frowned. "Hi?"

"Hey," she said, still looking annoyed but you tried to ignore her.

You had been having fun until you heard the back gate bang open and saw Campbell coming towards you with a frown. "You came?"

"You said I could," you said, but judging by his face you could tell that he didn't actually want you to be there. "You said you didn't care?"

"Well I obviously care! You know I don't like you hanging out with them!" He gave Jason and Harry a disgusted look and Jason stood up defensively.

"Stop screaming at her. She didn't do anything wrong," he said, scowling right back at Campbell.

"Yes she did. She came here even though she knows I don't like it. She's probably cheating on me too," he seethed and you furrowed your eyebrows at him.

"What are you talking about?"

"If you can't do something simple that I ask you to do, maybe we should break up!"

"Campbell," you whispered, but he kept staring at you with that same hard look and you could feel the tears forming. "You don't mean that."

"We're done," he said, turning and storming away. Elle glared at you as well and ran after Campbell.

"What just happened?" Harry was looking back and forth confused and Jason pulled you into a hug. "Does he really think you would be such a pig to cheat on him like that? With one of us?"

You shook your head against Jason's chest as he squeezed you tightly. "You are better without him, okay? He's controlling and you don't deserve someone that is going to accuse you like that."

You knew Campbell was guarded and it took a lot to gain his trust, but you had done nothing to make him think you were cheating. You decided that maybe he just wasn't ready for a relationship until you saw him with Elle on his arm the following week.

"Oh my God," Harry whispered, and you realized it didn't actually bother you. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, it's fine," you said. "Elle is a much better fit for him anyway. She's more obedient and will do whatever he wants her to do."

Jason stifled a laugh and she glared over at you. "You're right, she's perfect for him."
