"(Y/N)!" You ignored Campbell's shout from downstairs and continued leafing through your history textbook, only partly interested in the American Revolution. "(Y/N)," he yelled again, this time from right outside the door.

"Homework," you mumbled as he jiggled the knob. Your brothers were prone to just barge in without asking, although Sam was always allowed. Campbell was a different story.

"Open the stupid door," he grumbled, turning the knob harder.

"Leave me alone, I'm busy!" You were using the irritated tone that always made Campbell mad and you heard him swear under his breath before his steps retreated down the hallway. Without warning, the lock popped and the door flew open, banging against the wall and rattling the picture frames hung there. "Campbell!"

"What have I told you about letting your stupid little friends in my room?" His face was bright red, his fists clenched at his sides and you could practically see the smoke coming out of his ears as he stomped in. "My wallet isn't on my desk and I'll bet you all the money in it that Grizz took it."

You laughed at the thought of Grizz living on the edge and stealing, especially from Campbell, but he glared which made you immediately stop. "You probably can't bet all of the money because I assume it would be gone by now." He didn't think the joke was funny and opened his mouth to start yelling again. "Maybe you just misplaced it?"

"No, I didn't and I know you're just covering for him. I'm sick of you acting like you can do anything you want just because you're the youngest. It's really bratty," he said, turning to walk out of the room with a huff.

You knew it was a bad idea to argue with Campbell because it just made him more angry but you stood up and followed him. "I'm bratty? Do you even hear yourself right now?" He walked into his room and attempted to shut you out, but you stuck your foot in the door and kept talking. "And you make everyone think you're so tough by being such a jerk and then you run away when people try to have a conversation with you! That's probably why people don't like you! And honestly Campbell, if I weren't your sister, I would hate you!"

Of course he was a violent person, but he had always been gentle with you and you thought you were safe from his assaults. It took you a minute to register the sting on your cheek as you stepped back, a bit dazed as it sunk in that Campbell had slapped you and then proceded to slam the door in your face.

You stood outside his door for a second before immediately leaving and walking down the street. You couldn't believe that he would do that to you and not even apologize. You kept walking until you reached Grizz's house, surprising yourself by knocking on the door despite the tears running down your face.

He opened the door and concern immediately filled his face as you wrapped your arms around him. "What happened?" He pulled you inside and rubbed your back in an attempt to calm you down as he tried you get you to look at him. "Where are your shoes?" Shoes had been the least of your problems when you left.

"(Y/N)?" Sam was whispering from the doorway and you had completely forgotten that he had come here to study. Hearing his voice was like music to your ears and you tore away from Grizz and sobbed into Sam's shoulder.

Sam gave Grizz a confused look and Grizz shrugged to let him know that he knew as much as Sam did, which was basically nothing. You took a minute to collect yourself and pulled away from Sam, opening your mouth to start talking but Grizz's eyes were wide and fixed on your cheek as he brushed it with his thumb.

"Is that a handprint?"

His question made the panic set in again as you tried to stutter out everything that had happened. "He thinks you stole his wallet and I defended you," you cried and Sam looked between you and Grizz for some kind of guidance. You knew you were talking way too fast for Sam to read your lips and Grizz's sign language wasn't fluent enought to help at all.

"Hey, just take a breath, okay? Slow down so Sam can understand," Grizz said gently as he led you over to sit on the couch. "Who thinks I stole their wallet?"

"Campbell," you whimpered. Grizz was gritting his teeth together because he knew exactly where the story was headed, but he nodded for you to continue. "I think I told him that I hated him or something, I can't remember. But anyway, he slapped me and then he slammed his door and I didn't want to be there anymore so I came here."

Sam was mad too which didn't happen very often and the boys exchanged a glance. "Are you okay?" Grizz was tapping his foot and his anger was making you fell anxious.

"Yeah I'm fine, I don't even know why I came," you said quietly, feeling dumb for coming. "You guys were obviously busy."

Grizz put a hand on your shoulder and shook his head. "No, you should be here and not in the house with Campbell. It's not okay that he did that to you."

"Yeah, we have to tell mom and dad," Sam signed and a fresh set of tears filled my eyes at the thought. "It'll be okay."

"Both of you are staying here tonight," Grizz said and you smiled gratefully at him. The thought of going back home with Campbell made your stomach turn and Sam was probably equally as glad; he was usually the one Campbell chose as target.

The room was silent and you glanced down, wiggling your toes. "Can I have some socks?" In your rush to get away, you hadn't bothered with socks either and now your feet were beginning to get a little cold.

"Yes, you absolutely can have a pair of socks," Grizz laughed. He had the ability to lift your mood no matter what and you were so grateful to have someone like him.
