"Wow, I never thought I would actually enjoy The Princess Bride as much as I did," you commented on the walk home. Clark had been quoting the same part of the movie over and over again, and it was only funny because he couldn't seem to say it correctly.

"God Clark, learn a different part." Elle was rolling her eyes but you could tell she thought it was just as funny as you did. You were glad to see she was smiling; it seemed rare since she had gotten together with Campbell, and you had missed it.

You had missed a lot of things, actually. At the beginning of this whole mess, you and Elle were kind of loners together. You were shy and always assumed people would judge you for being gay which was so not the case at all. And Elle was more anti-social than anything so she didn't hang around many people.

You had gravitated towards each other slowly and had started to spend a lot of time together. Late night gossip sessions on her bedroom floor. Watching old home videos of her ballet performances and you begging her to teach you, which she did grudgingly but enjoyed all the same. You sharing a bed when it got too late and you didn't want to walk home, and the smell of her sheets lulling you to sleep.

As soon as you got close, she met Campbell and any chance at a friendship or anything more was swept under the rug and you felt alone again. She still smiled at you in passing and talked to you occasionally but it seemed that Campbell never really let her out of his sight, and you didn't hang out at all anymore.

The three of you reached Campbell's house, him lurking in the open sliding glass door and you couldn't help but see that Elle's open, gorgeous smile had fallen and was replaced by something that resembled a grimace.

"Did you have fun?" Campbell was smiling brightly but he made you feel uneasy. You watched Elle push herself into his side and his arm wrapped around her waist. A feeling of jealously bubbled in your stomach but you shoved it down.

"Yeah, the movie was really good. We stayed back to finish off the popcorn and Clark and (Y/N) walked me home," she said and Clark nodded, repeating his new favorite phrase and causing Elle and you to burst into a fit of giggles.

Campbell just gave you and Clark a tight lipped smile and replied with "Well thanks for walking Elle home," before whisking her into the house and locking the door behind them. Elle tossed a wave over her shoulder and you watched Campbell's grip tighten on her waist.

Clark and you both waved back and you continued your walk to Allie's house where you were both staying. "That guy gives me the creeps," Clark said, shuddering for effect but all you could do was weakly nod.

The Guard and a few other people were playing some kind of game in the living room but you said you were too tired and headed upstairs, changing into your pajamas and laying in bed with your face turned towards the ceiling, sleep probably not being something that would come easy tonight.

As much as you disliked Campbell, you couldn't help but feel a little jealous of him. Because right now in his house he had Elle with him, and you didn't. And that was enough to make your heart ache.

You had just drifted off to sleep when the bedroom door slammed open and Jason was standing with wide eyes. You sat up and gave him a confused look but he just grabbed your arm and began tugging you downstairs. You thought you heard him say "Elle" under his breath but you weren't sure. At least, you weren't sure until you reached the bottom of the stairs and saw a crying, scared Elle hovering in the doorway.

"Oh my gosh," you whispered and rushed over to where she was standing, her collapsing in your arms and her sobs becoming more audible. You lightly brushed the back of her head with your hand and glanced around at Jason and Grizz who looked like they had no clue what to do. "I got this," was all you said and they gave uncertain nods before leaving you two alone.

"C'mon," you whispered, gently prodding Elle upstairs and turning her in the direction of your room. You closed the door behind her and pushed her shoulders so she was sitting on the bed, positioning yourself in front of her.

She had calmed down at this point, but her blue eyes were still pooling with tears and her bottom lip was trembling. She sniffed and glanced up to look at you, giving a weak smile. "I'm sorry. I don't know why I came here. I guess I just thought we were so close before that maybe you could help me but," she rambled trailing off when you grabbed her hand and rubbed her knuckles lightly with your thumb.

"Of course. I'm always here for you," you whispered and she cleared her throat, nodding.

"I just needed to get away from him," she said, her voice dropping and you almost couldn't hear her.

You frowned when you registered what she said and leaned closer. "Why? Did he hurt you?" She just shrugged but you could see the dimple in her chin form that only appears when she's about to cry. You closed your eyes and took a measured breath before speaking again. "Elle, did he hurt you?"

This time when she looked up you could see the hurt across her face and she nodded, burying her face in your neck and beginning to shakily tell you the whole story. You wrapped your arms around her and listened without interrupting, giving her as much time as she needed until she had stopped shaking and had looked up to see your reaction.

You were biting your lip and your hands had clenched into fists at some point. "We need to tell The Guard."

"No!" Panic was flashing across Elle's face and she jumped out of your arms. "You can't tell anyone! He'll kill me, seriously. And it won't help because I'll never get away from him," she said and the panic melted into confusion. "I don't think I ever really loved him in the first place. Or even liked him. I just got so excited that someone was paying attention to me."

You took a deep breath and took this as your one chance. You leaned forward and grabbed Elle's hands, pulling her back down onto your bed. Her full attention was now turned on you and you felt the same butterflies in your stomach as the first time you had seen her. All blonde and beautiful and smiling and so different than the broken, scared girl now but beautiful all the same.

You still had your hands in hers and you released one so you could place it on the side of her cheek. You leaned in a little closer, trying to tell if she was going to pull away, but her eyes were fixed on you and she glanced down to your lips, then back up to your eyes.

In one quick motion, she leaned forward connecting your lips and causing you to make a noise of surprise but you quickly recovered and relished the feeling of Elle Tomkins' lips against your own, a feeling you had been dreaming about for a very long time.

She pulled away, her mouth slightly open and you searched for something to say but the door opened, causing you to spring apart from each other, Grizz giving you a strange look. He held out two mugs and cleared his throat awkwardly. "Hey, uh, thought you might like some tea but um. I think I'm interrupting something. So I'm gonna. Go."

The mugs were placed on the desk and Grizz hurried away, the silence returning. But Elle turned back to you and you both burst into laughter because of course something like this would happen to you two.

When you had calmed down Elle was the first one to speak. "So, that happened." You could feel your face fall and you kept your eyes trained to the bedspread. Here was going to be her nice rejection. She would say she didn't mean to kiss you, she's just in a weird headspace right now and didn't know what she was doing. Instead she placed her finger under your chin and tilted your head back up. "And it was absolutely perfect."

A smile creeped onto your face and you laughed lightly. "Really?" She nodded and pulled you in for another kiss. "I've been dreaming about this for a long time," you whispered when you pulled away.

She rested her forehead against yours and nodded. "I think I was too. I just didn't want to admit it to myself. And when Campbell showed an interest I thought maybe I could forget about you, but that's impossible."

Hearing those words could almost made you cry and you wrapped your arms around her. "I won't let him do anything to you anymore. You're safe." She nodded and curled up into your side.

You sent a quick text to The Guard explaining everything and they agreed to put the house on lockdown for the night, guarding all entrances. You glanced down to tell Elle, but she was fast asleep on your stomach and you smiled. She looked peaceful and safe and so perfect. And now, she was all yours.
