Kate's light blue Honda seems so far away as
I exit the little market. I load the groceries into the car confused as to what just happened back there.Hooking my phone up to the aux cord I found in the backseat, I dial the long-haired girl's number before setting the phone in the cup holder and pulling out of the driveway.
"Hey!" Her voice is light and strained as she moves around, carrying things, I think.
"Hi, something strange just happened," I begin to dive right in to the newfound information, looking both ways before I start down the busy street.
"What?"
"I just ran into one of Harry's college friends in the store,"
"Remember the guy I was telling you about that was so intrusive, asking me questions about whether I had done anything with Harry after Mark's party a few months ago?"
The night was so long ago it feels like. Flashes of Harry's vanilla back and cocky attitude flood my mind before I realize that the light is now green.
"Oh yea," she exclaims in remembrance.
"I didn't think that they were friends. You never said that."
"It's because I didn't know!" I breathe perplexed.
"I guess it makes sense. Didn't you say he was president of Alex's frat?" she questions proving a point.
"Probably why Alex doesn't like him. He's probably jealous of the two or something," she continues solidly.
Wow.
Is that it?
Alex has always been envious of things he didn't have. And I know he's wanted to be the president of the frat since his initiation. Is Alex jealous of Harry's relationship with the boy?
"Apparently, they go way back or something like that. . . he invited me to hang out with the rest of them later today," I inform, slowing down to let the guy crossing the street by. His hand is being held by a small child with dark hair talking excitedly about something. I smile at the lovely picture.
"Do you think that that's a good idea?"
"What's going on?" I ask as a pot drops in the background.
"Just rearranging some things in the kitchen. Give me a second."
The car is immediately muffled with background noise as she setups up a few pots and pans. The sound of her picking up the phone to her ear is loud when she announces she's back.
"I don't know if it's a good idea," I start, referring to her question earlier.
"Is my curiosity peaked? Well, of course it is!"
"I just- I don't know," I exasperate confused, quickly resting my head on the steering wheel as the light turns red. Lifting my head, I'm frightened by a small bird that randomly swoops down in front of my car, so I miss what she says at first completely unraveled by the winged animal.
"I said that I think you should go. I think it would be cool to see how Harry parallels to his friends. I don't see anything wrong with it."
She's right. She's always right. I'm just overthinking everything as always.
"Okay, I think I'm going to go. What should I wear?" I ask nervously as the engine starts up again.
I hear her laugh lightly before she opens her mouth to respond,"Wear what you would normally wear. You don't have to impress them, Parker. They're not your friends," she chuckles, absolutely right, once again. I hate that I'm constantly overthinking things. It takes up too much of my time and makes me paranoid about every little thing. I'm constantly stressed.
