"I wish you'd just listen to me," Harry speaks quietly with one hand expertly gripping the steering wheel.
I don't respond to him, as I unlock my phone to tell Jax we're close. I ushered for him to leave as soon as things were settled between Harry and I. I felt bad for making him leave without explanation. He looked hurt, but didn't argue with me. With a promise to still attend, he left silently. Alex was gone before I exited my room. Jax said he mentioned something about meeting up with Kate and then left. Jax responds speedily, joking as he sends me an impatient GIF.
Gosh, he's so. . . calm.
"We're here," Harry breathes frustratingly.
"Stay close to me at all times."
Wow.
I cannot get over how obssessive he is! His obssesive nature has only gotten worse as time passed on. He's literally so intoxicating it's nearly unbearable now. I feel as I'm about to snap. I get out of his truck, slamming the passenger door, and wait for him to meet me over on my side. The small, little get together Jax promised me it would be is not small. . . at all. There has to be over a hundred people and counting in attendance. When I look around I notice how well put together all of this is. The space is so. . . large. You could fit two of my houses in this backyard alone. Paper night lights are strung about all over the yard. Everyone is having a good time! There are people who are actually enjoying the movie that's playing on the large movie screen centered in the middle of the backyard. Other groups of college students are engaging in various illegal activities over in the back corners. Not too far from the movie screen there is a small pit fire with people surrounding it, holding their marshmallows too close to the flame. This place is anything but small.
"Parker! Harry!" Jax beams at the both of us, though only hugging me right after. He's changed since my house. He's now wearing casual, dark jeans and a white t-shirt. He has his piercings in and a red cup in his hand, which instantly makes me worried.
"Don't fret about it," he begins, following my vision.
"It's water!"
His claim makes me smile widely. I look around at the other swarms of people in the large backyard with similar red cups before looking back at a knowing Jax.
"Their's not so much," he laughs loudly.
"Come on over. Derek and Niall are waiting for the both of you!"
Jax takes me under his shoulder despite the hard glare Harry passed him. Without much negotiation, Jax starts walking me towards the light-hearted twins and for a second I think that Harry stayed behind. However, rather instantly, I feel his hard body up against my back slightly beside me and turn around to see that he's picked up one of the red cups. He sends me a glare once he notices what I'm staring at and I just roll my eyes at his behavior. If he wants to act like a child, then so be it. I want no part of his shenanigans. I quickly align my steps with Jax, now noticing I've fallen behind slightly.
"Parker, my dude. How are you?" Niall exclaims in a Californian accent I never noticed before.
"Tired," I respond honestly, smiling at both of the twins. Not only am I mentally tired, but I am physically as well. I've been up since the crack of dawn with Jax. I just want to sit down and watch the scary movie that's playing behind me. Looking around quickly, I notice several groups of people are entering a rather large, white house. Then, as if I am just realizing that we're in a backyard, I open my mouth to speak before thinking.
"Who's house is this?"
"Mine," Amy speaks, walking up behind me, scaring me slightly. She looks. . . hot? She has her hair styled up in a high ponytail that looks extremely heavy. Her face is caked with pounds of makeup, but somehow it works for her. She has toned her look down, drastically, sticking with rather dark colors. I never noticed it before, but she's actually really thin in a model-like way. With a short crop top that leaves very little to the imagination, she's also wearing shorts that are honestly unnecessary at this point; the insides of the pockets are sticking out completely. Out of everyone in the backyard, she's the only one wearing shoes - well, heels at that. She looks like a goddess.
Incredibly self-conscious now, I look over at Harry and thankfully, he's ignoring her presence. Oddly, more than he normally is, he seems uncomfortable with her. I can tell that she's irritated by it, but she doesn't speak on it. I feel a sliver of confidence before it's replaced with embarrassment of my jealous thoughts.
"Take off your shoes, Parker, and make yourself comfortable," she smiles big at me. Her smile is incredibly beautiful but odd.
Why is she being so kind to me?
"You too, Harold," she smirks, looking directly at me when she says his name.
What?
"Come, Parker," she smiles as she wraps her arm around my shoulder. Harry tenses up and, rightfully, so does Niall and Derek, when she does this. I mean, we were all surely under the impression that she despied me. She made that very clear at the beginning of our relationship. Despite their reactions, they remain silent as we she directs me towards the back of her massive house. I see Harry make a move for me, but I subtly make a motion for him to stay. I have to know what this is about.
"I think we got off on the wrong foot. I'd really like to be friends with you. I guess, I was just jealous that Harry's into you more than he is to me and that was wrong of me."
Her honesty catches me off guard completely. We've stopped at the foot of her sliding, glass door by now. Her eyes look earnest as they pour into mine, waiting for my response. Flashes of Harry treating her badly for months pop up in my head, and instantly, my heart pains for her. I was right. She's only acting out, because of how Harry had treated her. Her hate towards me is only a manifesto of the pain and heartbreak she's been left to deal with alone. I smile warmly at her taking her small hands in mine. Her hands are radiantly warm in comparison to the slight chill of the night.
How is she this warm in so little clothing?
"I'd really like that," I begin, hugging her lightly.
"Me too!"
Amy is not a bad person. She's just been dealt a terrible stick in life. I've known this since my very open night with Harry in nature. I can't imagine how it must feel to love someone unconditionally and to not have it returned. I hope that she gets the help she needs; I will help her process in any way I can. Hopefully, we'll be able to get to a place in our lives where we can genuinely, honestly be friends; she's such a sweet girl.
"Hey, new bestie, I need a favor," she beams, already giving me a nickname to mark our new friendship.
"Yes, of course, anything," I respond quickly. Her smile never falters in her delivery. It's honestly so odd to be under its presence all of a sudden. I'm so used to her spiteful glare and sassy remarks. This is pleasantly different, but still different.
"Well, I'm throwing this party as proof to my parents that I am an independent adult. Part of this, erm, um, agreement, I guess, is that I have to have physical proof of my party being a huge safe hit. I hired a photographer, but he bailed out on me last minute. I'd ask Harry, since he has an obssession with photography, but we are not necessarily on speaking terms. I'm sure you understand," she responds slightly dark towards the end. Her voice turned sinister at the mention of his name, but only slightly. She's seriously still so disturbed by his actions so long ago. As much as it pains me to say it, I think that I have to be a part of their healing process.
"And I don't really trust the boys in Ps-," she continues, but I cut her off, already aware of what she's getting at.
"Of course, I'll do it. It's no big deal, really."
Her face contorts into a look of happiness before she has both of her small arms wrapped tightly around me. I'm just happy that we can finally move on.
"You're great, Parker! I now see why Harry keeps you around. You're a delight!" she beams, clapping her hands in the process. I blush slightly at her words while she moves for the camera situated on the table behind her.
"This is yours. Click this button here to remove the shutter and this one here to take a shot. And try to get ample shots of the movie screen my parents purchased for this event. It's crucial that you get plenty shots of the screen. They'll be skeptics without them."
