The next morning, I slip into my room to change into a pair of sweats and a tank top, and a jacket. As silently as possible, I hobble down the stairs and out the back door.
The sun peeks behind the house, like a small child playing hide and seek. The chilling water brushes my fingertips as I sit on the edge, right next to the hot tub.
The cricket sounds are deafening, compared to the silent morning. There's absolutely no sense of time, except the slow shortening on my shadow over the crystal clear water.
After what feels like seconds, I hear the back door slide open. By the sounds of shoes smacking the stepping stone, I can tell it Fandral.
When he stops behind me, he sighs "I couldn't find you, and I called your phone. Why didn't you pick up?"
"Can't find my phone." I tell him as he sits next to me. After a while, I tell him "I wish I could feel weightless, again."
He gives a knowing look "That heaviness, I wish I could tell you it goes away." He shrugs "It does, mostly. Sometimes it feels heavier. But it'll still there, in the corner, telling me the meds aren't working and to stop taking them."
"Have you?" I ask and he gives a confused look "Ever stopped taking your meds?" he nods and I ask "What happened?"
He gives an ashamed smile, before declaring "I got bad again." he scoffs "I just got better again."
"Recently?" I ask and he nods "Right after you saw me in the hospital?"
His eyes go watery and he speaks, breathlessly "I saw you, hurting yourself. It made my disorder worsen, and I stopped."
I look at him, with my lithium induced lack of facial expression and state "I didn't mean to hurt you."
He wraps his arm around me and states "I didn't want this for you. I was hoping it was in my dad's family, so you wouldn't be effected."
"Genetic shit stick." I tell him and he smiles, before checking his watch, causing me to ask "What time is it?"
"Quarter to seven." he states, before asking "How long have you been out here?"
I look back at the sun to find it starting to poke out from the top of the house "About an hour, I think."
He nods, before looking towards my bare feet "You must be freezing. Let's go in and get something to eat, yeah?"
I look over the pool once more, before using the hot tub to pull myself up "What's for breakfast?"
He helps me up as he tells my "Your mum is making waffles." As we hobble back towards the house "How do you feel about that, anyway? Frigga and Odin being your new mum and dad?"
I shrug "Laufey hasn't really ever showed affection towards me, and Odin has been more fatherly than anyone."
"Frigga..." I stop about halfway to the door and state "My biological mum bailed on me, and Frigga, she's very nice. She's been there for me, like a real mum. Cried with me, laughed with me. But..."
I take a deep breath, before asking "Can I really ask them to put up with all of this bipolar bullshit?"
He squeezes my shoulder gently "They adopted you, because they love you."
I give a short nod, before hobbling into the house.
~
"Thor?" I ask as I lay my head back on my pillow. He ignores me, so I sigh "Thor, stop. It's not working."
He pokes his head out from under the blanket and sighs "It's already. It's just the meds." he crawls out from under the blanket and decides "I'll suck it for you later."
I sigh and roll out of bed.
When we get downstairs, I find a scooter next to the stairs "The fuck?" I ask as Frigga puts a couple plates on the table.
"Thought you could use the scooter at school, so your armpits don't hurt." Frigga states and I hum, before testing it out.
After a wheel around the living room, I nod "This'll be fun." Fandral walks out of the kitchen and puts my pills down next to a glass of orange juice.
"Gimp, come eat breakfast! You've got to leave in like thirty minutes!" He orders, before sitting at the table.
After breakfast, I take my pills and grab my backpack. As I fashion it to the front if my scooter and Fandral sighs "Are you sure you're ready to go back to school?"
I furrow my brow and remind "I have a week finish nine weeks of work." I look to Thor "We should get going."
When we get out to the car, Thor helps me into the front seat. Once the scooter is in the back of the SUV, with one of the very back seats down, Thor slides into the drivers seat.
When he doesn't start the engine, I give him a curious look. He presses his lips into a fine line, before declare "I don't want you to feel bad, about this morning."
I furrow my brow at him "How am I supposed to feel, Thor?" I ask and he sighs and I chuckle in annoyance "I can't get it up, I can't express how I feel, and I can't do anything by my fucking self, because everyone is to fucking scared that I'm going to slit my fucking wrists, again!"
He moves in his seat to face me "Loki, it's only until your meds are adjusted, okay? Then you can get it up, and show emotion, and we won't watch you like a wounded bird!"
I sigh, before admitting "Thor, I'm fucking nuts! I'm going to be on those meds for thirty to fourty years!" I shrug "I might be on them for the rest of my fucking life!"
He sighs "Loki, I don't give a shit about the fucki-"
"Yo guys, what's up?" Tony asks as he jumps in the back seat "We're going to be late if we don't go now." We glare back at him and he asks "Did I interrupt something?"
Thor sighs, before reaching over and taking my hand, speaking softly "I don't care what the doctor says, or what the side effects are of the pills. I love you, Loki." he scoffs "Every inch of your body, every aspect of your personality, which will come through once your meds are adjusted."
I set my jaw, before ordering "Drive."
