Chapter 31

The next morning, I had to wake up at five in the morning. It was unnatural. I got dressed, brushed my hair and teeth, and then I grabbed my bags. My mom was staying for another month, so I gave her a kiss goodbye.

"Thanks for everything Mom. I love you." I said as I hugged her.

"You're welcome, I love you too." She said as I left.

The four of us, Mrs. Chance, Elliot, Alex, and I, made our way to the limo downstairs. The ride to the airport was silent because we were all exhausted. We went through security, and then we made our way to first class. I put my carryon in the overhead compartment, and I took the window seat.

Elliot sat down next to me. I was exhausted, and I put my head on his shoulder. At this point, I didn't really care. I just wanted to go to sleep.

Elliot gently shook my arm a few hours later.

"We're here." He said. I nodded and grabbed my carryon.

We took another limo home. We first dropped Alex off at his house. He thanked me then went home.

I looked at my phone to check the time. It was ten o'clock. Joe usually left the house at eight to go to work. I hope that this was the case. My heartbeat started racing. I was afraid for Carol and Elliot. We drove to their house, and they thanked me as they climbed out of the limo. I ran over to Elliot before he left.

"Be careful." I said as I buried my head in his neck.

"I will, don't worry." He told me as he stroked my hair. I felt so useless, but I knew that there was absolutely nothing I could do. I could tell someone, but Elliot made me promise.

I turned away and climbed back into the limo. I let a few small tears escape before I regained my composure.

I walked into my house, and it felt amazing to be home. I walked up the stairs and into my room, so I could unpack my clothes. I had washed most of the clothes back in Miami, so I washed the rest of them when I got home. I had my phone firmly gripped in my hand the whole time in case Elliot called me.

I was worried sick for him. If Joe wasn't there, they had until five thirty. I wanted to call him, but I didn't know if I should. If Joe wasn't there, I didn't want to instill more fear into Elliot.

I tried to keep my mind off of him, but it was to no avail. I decided to pack my basketball bag for Monday.

I grabbed my old bag, and I put my blue shoes, black shorts, and my black wife beater in there. I also made sure to put in deodorant, a towel, perfume, shampoo, conditioner, a brush, and hair ties. Since practices were in the morning, we were supposed to take a quick shower before school. I also threw in sweats, extra shoes, and the outfit that I was going to wear to school that day.

Well, that kept my mind off him for about twenty minutes. It was noon, and I grew antsy. I had to call him. I looked through my contacts and called him.

"Hello?" he said into the phone.

"Hey, is everything ok?" I asked him.

"Yeah, he's not home yet, but you have to relax ok?" he told me. I let out a sigh of relief knowing that he was ok, for now.

"Elliot, I can't relax, ok? There is nothing that will make me." I told him. I was serious.

"I know, but try, for me?" he begged.

"I will. Be careful." I told him.

"I will. Oh, and you shouldn't come over until I tell you to." He added.

"Ok." I said as I clicked the end call button.

I woke up on Sunday feeling awful. I had no idea what had happened to him. I tried calling him, but he didn't answer. I barely slept the night before.

I walked downstairs, and I made myself oatmeal. It was dry and had no flavor. The whole day was a waste.

I wanted to go over there so badly, but I had promised him that I wouldn't. I was starting to think that these promises were making things worse. Tony had texted several times, but I didn't respond. I walked around my whole house clutching the necklace that Elliot had given me. I finally fell asleep on my couch.
