Chapter 49

I woke up the next morning for basketball. My head wasn’t in the game; I was just going through the motions.

I sat behind him in Math as usual, but I didn’t want to talk to him. I got my wish; he didn’t even acknowledge me.

At lunch, I looked at the seat that awaited me in front of Elliot. I looked around and decided to sit next to Nicole.

“Hey, why aren’t you sitting with Elliot?” She asked as I sat down.

“We got into a fight.” I said dryly. She got the hint that I didn’t want to talk about it.

She nodded, and we continued lunch talking about our next game on Wednesday. I stole a few glances at my table, and I saw that Alex was staring at me. I sighed. Not the one I was hoping for.

After the final bell, I saw Elliot standing at his locker. I groaned. I knew that I was going to find out what the hell happened, despite my internal protests. I walked over to him.

“Hey.” I said with no emotion.

“Hey.” He said while looking into his locker. I looked around the halls, and I found us alone.

“I just want to know what I did.” I said. He hesitated, like he was thinking.

“Just leave me alone, ok?” He said while avoiding my gaze. I had a feeling he wasn’t telling me everything.

“Fine, if that’s what you want.” I said as I turned on my heels. I was about to walk out the door when I decided against it. I strode back over to Elliot. “You’re lying to me, and I know it.” I stated with a scowl. He sighed.

“I’m doing this for you.” He said with pained eyes.

“So you try to protect me, by hurting me? Excuse me if I don’t find the logic in that.” I said. I could feel my anger boiling.

“He knows about you.” Those few words made me freeze.

“How?” I asked shocked.

“He found my mom’s diary.” He said while staring at me. “It’s better if you just stay away from me. I don’t want you getting hurt.” I let out a light laugh, and he gave me a confused look.

“So when I say it, you say that he won’t come between us, but when you say it, I’m just supposed to walk away?” I asked. He groaned.

“That’s different. When you say it, I’m the one getting hurt, but when I say it, it’s you that I am worried about.” He said. “You’re just making this harder.”

“I seriously don’t care. I just want to be with you.” I said as I wrapped my arms around his torso. He sighed.

“I just don’t want you to get hurt.” He said as he snaked his arms around my shoulders.

“I won’t.” I said as I lifted my face up to kiss him on the lips. It was a quick peck, but there was so much meaning behind it. “Just don’t leave me.”

“I won’t.” He replied.

“Good, now let’s get you home.” I said with a smile. He laughed.

“Shouldn’t I be the one saying that?” he asked.

“Not with that leg.” I said with a smirk.

We walked to his house, and I decided to stay. Carol gave me a sad smile as I walked up the steps.

“I’m just gonna run to the store, I’ll be right back.” She hollered.

I sat on his bed next to him. Not even ten minutes later, hell broke loose.
