Chapter 33

The next day after practice, Elliot met me by my locker. I couldn't help myself; I kissed the bruise on his jaw. He tensed, but then he relaxed.

"It's ok, I wouldn't hurt you." I told him.

"I know, it's just a reflex." He smiled at me.

I noticed that I had broken another rule in my mind. Damn, this truly was going to be difficult.

I walked into Math class and took my seat towards the back of the classroom. Elliot took his seat in front of me. The class started, and I really tried to pay attention, but the lesson was so easy that it was hard to pay attention. After class, I walked by my locker to see Tony.

"Hey." He said as I walked over.

"Hi." I smiled at him. I had my back to my locker, so I could talk to him.

"I was wondering if you would go on a date with me this Saturday night?" he asked. I thought about it, and I really did want to go on a date.

"I'd love to." I smiled at him again.

"Great, I'll pick you up at seven." He said as he kissed my cheek and walked away.

I was smiling the rest of the day, until lunch that is.

"Why you so smiley?" Alex asked as I took my normal seat across from him and Elliot.

"I have a date." I cooed.

"With?" Alex pushed.

"Tony Seymour." I stated. I saw Elliot tense at the sound of his name.

Elliot grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the cafeteria.

"What?" I looked at him.

"I thought I told you that he was bad news." He said with rage in his eyes.

"You did, but so what if he has a rep?" I yelled at him, my anger rising.

"Don't come crying to me if you get hurt." He said fiercely. I winced at his hostility.

"I won't." I spat. I swiftly walked away from him.

At the end of the day, I stormed out of the school. I ran home. I was furious at Elliot. He did not have to treat me like I was a five-year-old. I was perfectly able to take care of myself.

I went to sleep fuming.

Practices were great; well for me anyways. It was a good way to get my anger under control. Our first game was next Monday, and I couldn't wait.

The rest of the day went by quickly because I did not speak to Elliot.

"Hey Paige." Tony called after me.

"Hey." I smiled at him. I could see Elliot standing behind him.

"I like your necklace. Where'd you get it?" he asked as he walked up to me.

"Elliot gave it to me as a Christmas present." I shrugged.

"Is he your boyfriend?" Tony said calmly, but I could sense some jealousy.

"No." I said dryly. I made sure to stare right into Elliot's eyes as I said the words.

"Cool, so I'll see ya on Saturday." He said as he kissed my cheek goodbye. I looked over at Elliot, and I could tell that he was angry. I could practically see the smoke pouring out of his ears. I walked up to him.

"Hi." I said calmly.

"What." He spat. I gave him a disgusted look and turned to walk away. He grabbed my arm. "Wait that came out wrong."

"Yeah, it did." I muttered. I looked around the empty hallways.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you yesterday; I was just angry." He said with pleading eyes. "I just don't want you to get hurt."

"Thanks. I know what I'm doing though. He can't hurt me; I won't let him." I shrugged. He hugged me.

"I know you won't." he said. "I'll see ya tomorrow." He walked away.

I decided to take the long way home. It wasn't that cold out today, and I wanted some fresh air to clear my thoughts.

I knew I would have to tell Elliot soon, but I wanted to wait until after my date with Tony.
