Chapter 46

On Friday, I called Carol.

“Is he there?” I asked her.

“Nope, you can come on over.” She said, and I could practically hear her smile.

“Thanks.” I said as I hung up the phone.

I walked to Elliot’s house, and the door opened. Carol was standing there waiting for me.

“How is he?” I asked concerned.

“It’s hard for him to walk, but he’ll be ok.” She said with another sad smile.

“How are you?” I asked genuinely worried.

“Elliot told you, didn’t he?” she asked with a smile.

“Yeah, congratulations.” I beamed.

“Thank you, and we are doing great.” She said as she rubbed her belly. I hugged her and went up the steps. I knocked on Elliot’s closed door.

“Yes mother?” he yelled through the door. I walked in. “Oh, hey.” He said with a smile. He was still sitting on the bed. I noticed that the picture I had given him for Christmas was on his nightstand.

“Hey,” I said as I sat next to him. “Anything worse?” I asked concerned. He shook his head at me.

“Nope, just a couple of bumps and bruises compared to my leg.” He said with a small smile.

“I ran into him yesterday.” I said. Elliot tensed.

“What? When? Are you ok?” he asked as he grabbed my shoulders.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I was walking home, and when I turned the corner, I ran into him. He continued walking.” I said. “It was a close call though. It was good I left at the time I did.” He let out a sigh of relief.

“You scared the shit outta me.” He said as he wrapped his arms around me. I gently snaked mine around his body.

“I’m fine. I didn’t mean to scare you.” I said.

“I’m not made outta glass; you don’t have to be so cautious around me.” He said.

“No matter how many times you say that, I won’t change my mind. You are hurt, badly, and I don’t want to hurt you anymore.” I said as I pushed a strand of hair out of his face.

“I love you.” He kissed my shoulder.

“I love you too.” I said through the chills that went through my body as his lips touched my skin.

He continued to kiss my shoulder, and he slowly made his way up my neck to my lips. They brushed lightly against mine, and I wanted more.

I lifted my lips up to his and opened my mouth to deepen the kiss.  His hand ran alongside my rib cage. I felt tingles of electricity run through my body. I carefully traced my fingers down his chest and abs. I playfully tugged on his lower lip. I felt the moan forming in the back of his throat. I smiled and pulled away. I started to kiss his neck. We both pulled away for air.

“See, I’m not hurt.” He smiled.

“That’s because I went easy on you.” I smirked.

“That was easy?” he asked. I nodded with a smile forming on my lips.

“And that’s all you’re gonna get.” I smirked again.

“Fine.” He sighed.

“I should get going anyways.” I said as I pulled my jacket on.

“It’s only five.” He whined as he grabbed my hand.

“Yeah, and I’ve been cutting it close each time. Goodbye.” I said as I gave him one last kiss.

I walked out of his house and into the streets of New York. This leaving was getting harder and harder because I knew what he awaited. I sighed. There wasn’t anything I could do without breaking any promises.
