My Love Is Like a Star

Chapter 18

        I dropped Maddie off at my parent’s house and told her to text me when her and mom were done talking about whatever they needed to fix. On our way home I got a phone call from Nick. “Hey babe!” I said answering the phone. “Hey love, what are you doing?” “I’m heading home from shopping and dropping off Maddie at my parent’s house.” I told him. “Oh, well I was wondering if it would be okay for me to stop by later to see you and Aubree since I haven’t seen you two in a while.”  I smiled when he asked to come over. I missed him so much since I haven’t gotten to see him that often because he was recording his album and I was on tour.  “Sure! We’d love to have you over.” I said trying not to sound so egger.  “Great! I’ll be over around 4. Text me when you get home love.” “I will Nick. We’ll see you at 4.” I said. “Bye babe.” “Bye.” We hung up the phone and I looked back at my girl who was now fast asleep in her car seat. I giggled. When we pulled up to the stop light I turned around and took a picture of her. She looked so peaceful.  When I got home I gently got my little girl out of her seat and went into the house. I texted Nick after I laid Aubree down on the couch.  After I texted Nick I walked into the kitchen to start making lunch for me and Aubree.  I made Aubree a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and I made myself a salad and half a turkey sandwich.  I walked over to the couch and gently woke up my little princess from her sleep.  “Aubree, come on honey it’s time to eat lunch baby.” I scooped my half asleep little girl off the couch and sat her down at the table.  I brought her the sandwich and her sippy cup of apple juice. I sat down across from her, trying not to giggle because she was half asleep still and she was trying to eat.  “Aubree guess what.”  She looked up at me, “What mama?” “Nick is going to come over later.” I told her. Her eyes lit up, she loved Nick so much. “Really mama?!” She said practically screaming with joy. I laughed, “Yes baby girl. Now eat your pb and J lovebug.” I told her.

                She picked up a little square of her sandwich and began to eat it.  I noticed that after she had about two pieces of her peanut butter and jelly that her face began to turn red and she began coughing. “Aubree, sweetie are you okay?”  I noticed that she was also wheezing.  I didn’t know what was wrong with her. She began coughing harder.  “Aubree, take a drink for mommy.” I told her. She took a drink of her juice but that didn’t work.  I started to panic something was wrong with my little girl. I called 911. “Hello what is your emergency?” “Hi my daughter can’t breathe she’s only 3 and she’s turning red and she’s wheezing.”  “Okay stay calm I am sending an ambulance now.” “Okay thank you.” I hung up the phone and called Nick. “Hello?” he said in a whisper. “Nick I know you said that you’re in a meeting but this is an emergency.” “Demi calm down what’s wrong?” “It’s Aubree, she is wheezing and her face is red and she can’t breathe.  I called 911 and the ambulance is coming and we’re going to the hospital.”  I told trying not to cry in front of my daughter. “Baby I’ll be right there!” He hung up the phone just as the ambulance pulled up.  I picked up Aubree and ran outside with her. She was sweating up a storm now.  The paramedics put her in the ambulance and I jumped in right beside her. I held her little hand all the way to the hospital.

                It’d been about an hour until the doctor came out. “Parent of Aubree Lovato?” I stood up and walked over with Nick at my side. “Your daughter had an allergic reaction to peanuts. She’ll be okay but we’d like to keep her over night for some observations.” “Thank you dr. Peters. Can we go see her?” “Yes, she is sleeping. Follow me.” Nick grabbed my hand and we followed the doctor down to room 113.  My little girl was asleep in her hospital bed, I turned into Nick’s chest and began to sob. Nick wrapped his big arms around my back and held me close to him. “Shhh babe. It’s okay she’s going to be okay now.” He said kissing the top of my head.  We heard footsteps coming down the hall. It was my parents and my sisters. “Oh demi!” My mom said as she saw me.  She pulled me from Nick and into a hug.  I sniffled, “She’s okay.  She had an allergic reaction to peanuts. They’re keeping her overnight.” I explained. I looked over at my little girl who’s eyes now opened. She looked confused. “Mommy?” She almost crying. “I’m right her sweetie.” I said walking over to her. I kissed the top of her head. “You’re okay baby girl.” I said smiling. Her little arms reached up for me to pick her up. “Honey I can’t pick you up right now. You have a tube in and it’ll hurt if mommy picks you up.” I told her. Maddie walked over to her and her eyes lit up. “Auntie Maddie.” She said smiling. “Hey sweetie. I brought you something.” She said pulling a little pink and purple teddy bear out of her purse.  Aubree smiled and reached her arms up for Maddie. Maddie bent down and hugged her.  Maddie kissed the top of her head and walked back over to my parents. “Do you want us to stay Demi?” My mom asked. “No, I’ll be okay.” I told her. “Okay. We’ll come back in a little while and check on you two. I love you demi.” “Love you too mom.” They walked out of the room and down the hall. I looked over at Nick and then sat down beside my daughter.  “Demi, do you want me to stay with you?”  “Please.” I said. He nodded his head.
