The chattering of everyone around the village is loud, it's hard to really stake anything out. Not that I'm on a mission or anything. In fact, I haven't been on a mission in months. With my criminal justice course finals last week, my parents gave me the past bit to study for them. Now that they are over, I'm dying to get back into the family business. Dad said I could start sometime in the next few days, once they get another lead. There are plenty of organizations to hunt down, but my goal has always been to find the main one. The Blake organization. It has been the number one organization on our list for decades, and I'm determined to make this their last decade of ruling and put them in jail for good.
"Mr. Colton," the man says, "would you like the cupcake in a bag?" I let myself focus back on my immediate surroundings.
"No thank you," I answer. As the grocer hands me the cupcake on a paper plate. I look at the cupcake and smile. Here's to taking over the family business! I have about 7 years until Dad hands over the whole thing to me. Of course he'll still be part of it, but I'll be leading it. After all on your son's 25th birthday that's when the company is handed over. At least for now I'm only 18. I've spent my whole life fast tracking through school so I could graduate with my criminal justice degree by now. It seems to have worked, and while excelling at school, I've managed to pick up on several of the Blake missions. Today, I'm celebrating with my favourite treat, that only my family loves. The chocolate filled, chocolate iced, chocolate sprinkled, chocolate cupcake is our family's favourite. As I quickly munch down on the cupcake, I make my way through the busy village, making sure not to seem suspicious or anything. I'm not wearing my Colton uniform, as technically you're only allowed to wear it when on missions. Still I watch for anyone suspiciously moving around with daggers or needles pointing out on their outfits.
"Hey Griffin!" Cassie yells, "want a ride home?" the fluttering of her long eyelashes is extremely noticeable, and would make most guys in town fall head over heels.
"Thanks Cas," I answer, "but I could use the walk." she nods, seemingly disappointed.
"Another time then," she answers, "Au revoir!" she exclaims as she rides away in her limo, leaving me walking on the sidewalk. It's not that I don't like Cassie. We've been friends since we were young, but I've never really liked in her that way. It's not about her looks, she is really hot, you can ask any guy in town, but she is just the kind of girl that flirts with everyone. Plus, she might as well be family. My grandfather hired her grandfather back when he ran it, and they are one of the few families that travels around with us. Their family is now just bound to work with us. Her dad works with us, Cassie is one year behind me, and is due to finish her criminal justice course next year, before she joins the business. It would be way too awkward if we ever broke up. By family business, I don't mean it's only my family working in it. I mean our family is the center of it. We run everything, from wherever we are at the moment, and we hire and are the bosses of everyone in it. I think we have about 1000 employees in the US, and a few hundred spread across Canada and Mexico. Once you are hired into our business, you never leave the business, and you're kids are directly put into it. I will be the boss of it all soon enough. Since I have no siblings, my spouse would usually be the one put as second in command, but who knows who that will be. My family doesn't really care who I marry, as long as they aren't part of the organizations, and I do it before I take over the business.
"Mom, Dad! I'm home!" I call as I exit the elevator to our penthouse. Our one of many spread across America.
"Hey Griff!" My dad exclaims, patting me on the back, "I think you'll be excited to hear this!" He leads me to his office, where he spends most of his days. We sit down at his desk, and I wait anxiously as he shifts through the papers. "There has been several reports from yesterday in 3 towns all about 3 hours from here, all about the Blakes."
