When Griffin finishes explaining, I think he expects me to be more shocked about this, but I'm honestly not surprised. My family has their way of getting to people, and being convincing, and Cassie probably didn't need to much. The talking is getting easier the more I do it, so I decide to explain to Griffin how this needs to work now instead of later.
"You need to go pick up Cassie," I say, "you need to talk to her, get all the information about who she talked to and how. You then need to throw out her phone and any of her electronics and get new ones. Chances are they can track her through those. You have to check whatever clothing she was wearing when she met them to make sure those don't have trackers or microphones, and then burn them. You need to ensure she has no contact with them, and make sure she stays somewhere safe and out of the public, at least for the next few weeks. Hopefully she didn't know too much and they won't have a reason to kill her or take her in." Griffin looks at me shocked that I could say all that without using the oxygen mask. To be honest, my lungs aren't really what hurts anymore. He nods and squeezes my hand.
"I'll get Mack on doing that stuff," he says, "for now I'll stay here with you. Until we can go home, and you've healed." My face falls at this.
"How much longer do I have to stay here?" I ask him just as the doctor walks in. "How much longer do I have to stay here?" I ask the doctor.
"Well, the good news is, we don't need to keep you here for that, but you should stay on bed rest for it for the next week or so, but you can do that at home, after you leave here in 2 days."
"2 days!" I exclaim. "I can go home in 2 days!"
"Don't get too excited," he laughs, "your stitches may open up and it'll be longer." I smile and him and squeeze Griffin's hand, who seems more worried than happy. I see him type something on his phone quickly then put it away.
"Mae, Cassie is getting suspended from the business," he says. "I texted my Dad about what happened and he said it's a necessary punishment and the board will have to decide whether or not to permanently kick her out."
"I'm sorry Griff," I say. I do feel bad. Genuinely. I've come along and basically ruined Griffin's life. I get why Cassie would want me dead, I would get why even his parents would want me dead.
"Rise and shine!" Mack exclaims walking into my hospital room, "I brought waffles, fruit and iced coffees for everyone." Mack starts setting everything out on my bed and I smile appreciatively.
"Thanks Mack," I say, "this is really way too much." Griffin and Mack exchange some unspoken word as we start eating. "So I was thinking. For the plan today. After breakfast I'll go see Cassie and deal with that stuff, then I come back here, Griffin you go sign the papers and I'll stay with Mae, and-" I cut her off.
"Papers? What are you signing papers for?" I look at Griffin curiously. Griffin gives Mack the death stare.
"Oops, I don't think I was supposed to say that..." she trails off.
"Would someone like to catch me up?" I say to Griffin. I'm getting excited more than nervous, thoughts flying through my head.
"Mack and I, last night went to go look at a condo near the beach. I was going to surprise you with it after you left the hospital, but it's ours as soon as we sign the papers," he gives in.
"Griff!" I exclaim, "you're getting us an apartment!" I grab his shirt and pull him in for a kiss. "Thank you." I whisper quietly.
"Wanna see pictures," he teases. I smile and grab his phone as we flip through pictures, him and Mack adding in small comments every little while.
