The past few days have been non-stop planning. The whole group is always at our place, despite the fact Mae can move around now. We have a full plan set in place, and part one begins tonight. Mae agreed part one she doesn't have to be physically involved, and can just run the operation from the sidelines. Part two, no such luck in convincing her to stay behind.
"Hey," Mack says walking into the meeting 15 minutes late, "I'm sorry I'm late but I brought doughnuts and coffee," she places them all on the table and the group immediately digs in.
"Okay," I start, "let's go over the plans for tonight one more time." Everyone nods, despite the fact they are engulfing the food. "Jayden and Ivy," The two siblings pipe up at their name. "You'll be waiting on Thornstone from 6-12, 2 hour shifts maximum, but other than that, figure out your own schedule between the two of you."
"Remember, it's the hotel with the red bricks and black accents," Mae adds. This hotel is apparently somewhere that is owned by another organization and people often stay at.
"Lucas, Paris and Hayden," I turn to the three of them. "You'll be on Trenton street where the house is. At least two of you must stay at post at all times. Same goes for the maximum 2 hour shifts."
"Harper and Mack," I say, "you two will be waiting with the van at the intersection between Thorstone and Haffles. Everyone goes directly there after being called back, or if you find something. Mae, Charles and I will be on headset with all of you at all times."
"If you see any of these people," Mae motions to a board of pictures above our head. The pictures aren't the best quality since they were Mae's personal pictures of them. You can't find an undocumented person online. "You tell us immediately. Study their faces, if you need confirmation I have pictures ready to send you at any minute." As Mae sits in front of the pictures, the resemblance between her and her family is so obvious even through pictures. Their matching silvery grey eyes, the same noses and couple freckles that cover it. While they may have different hair colours, they all share a resemblance.
We solidify the plan over and over again, and have each person repeat back their job. By the time it's instilled in everyone's brain it's about 1pm. That gives us 5 hours to go over the next steps. We have to work fast because the Blakes are working faster. Mae's been all about work the past few days and I feel like she needs a break. She only has another week and a half on crutches at most and if it becomes longer, I don't think she'll be too happy. She doesn't even take a lunch break with everyone else. Instead she keeps going over the plan writing it out, thinking it out. She needs a break. I go to the room while Mae is still in the office and I get my computer. Obviously we need to move fast on this, but we'll always have breaks. Plus if we take one night off, no one will judge us. I find a private chef company and email him with my plan. He responds within minutes giving me a thumbs up on the idea and a cost. The cost is nothing compared to the joy it'll bring Mae. We can do it tomorrow night, after 'phase one'. After booking the food, I book the boat, and that kind of stuff. I think it's just what Mae needs.
At 6pm that night, Mack and Harper drive to go drop everyone off. Mae, Charles and I all have headsets to communicate with everyone as the night goes on, but Mae is getting more anxious sitting here by the minute. I mute my microphone and turn to Mae.
"You can go to the hot tub downstairs. It's open until 9." I tell her. I know that helps calm her down sometimes. It calms me down too, "Charles and I have the headsets and I can call you if anything happens." She shakes her head.
