As I stand up at the front of the aisle, all my best friends to one side of me, and the officiator to the other side of me, it really hits me. This is my wedding. It's just after 5, and almost everyone has taken their seat. I can see Mae and her bridal party in the distance, but it's too hard to make out the details. That's a shame, I can't wait to see how beautiful she looks. The details around here, the set up of our wedding, it's perfect. There are white and light pink flowers everywhere, and a bit over to the right is the party and dinner space for later filled with tables and a dance floor, right on the beach. As my parents sit down in the front row, (them being the last one here is their way of protesting this marriage) the band starts playing music. The ocean behind me sloshes somehow in perfect timing with the music.
"Ready?" Lucas asks quietly. I smile,
"As I'll ever be," I tell him as we wait for the bridesmaid to start walking. My heart flutters, and it isn't really because of nerves. I guess it's... excitement. Everyone looks back as the first of the bridesmaids walk down. From far, all I can see is the blue colour of the dress matching my groomsmens' ties. As they come closer, I see it's Harper. After Harper is about halfway, whom I think is Paris starts walking. Then Ivy, then Cassie, and then finally Mack, who is maid of honour. Once the 5 of them stand at the front of the aisle, Mae starts making her way down. My face lights up as I watch the love of my life walk down the aisle. Everyone rises and watches Mae and I feel like time freezes as I watch her. Her light auburn hair is done in such a delicate style, with light bouncy curls. Her dress is almost as beautiful as her, and her baby bump is barely visible, not that I would have mind seeing our little boy or girl with us. She is wearing barely any makeup, and I like it better that way. She is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen any day, yet today she's surpassed a human level of beauty. Her grey eyes peer into mine, so much hope filling her. So much love. This is our day. Our perfect day. She is perfect. When she reaches the front of the aisle, her eyes sparkle as they stare into mine and she takes her place turning towards me.
"Welcome," the officiant says, "today we are here to celebrate and witness the joining of two hearts. Maeve Clara Blake and Griffin Owen Colton do you wish to proceed in being joined in marriage?" We both nod, "please join hands. Do either of you have vows to exchange before we continue?" Mae and I agreed to do short personal vows as well.
"Mae," I start, and everyone else watching this seems to disappear and it's just us. "Since the day I met you, I knew that you were my soulmate. I knew that you were the only person that would ever be right for me. You are perfect. You are my family. You are all I will ever need. When you are with me, I know that everything will be okay. As long as I have you, I have everything I need. Today, we make a promise. A promise to never leave each other's side, no matter how many bumps in the road there are. And while we may be young, I see no point in waiting to promise that I will spend the rest of my life loving you. No matter what." I'm tearing up and so is Mae. I had much more to say, but I know very well I can't make a speech that will take forever. Besides, Mae's heard me say everything I want to say before, and she knows very well that she is the love of my life. As Mae starts her vows, she's already crying, and trying to make it through. My urge to just grab her and kiss her is so strong, but I have to hold out for another couple minutes.
"Griffin," she starts, "you are my world, my better half, the love of my life." she pauses to collect herself. "You have changed me to be a better person, and you have shown me what true love is. I love you with all my heart, and have since we met in that little cafe in Penn. You are my heart, and you are my family, and I can't wait to grow our family. I will love you forever, through life and death. You are my whole world Griffin Colton, and I love you more than anything." Both of us stare at each other teary eyed.
