That night when I get home from the house I'm filled with joy. That is until the phone rings. I see Dak's name light up, and regret fills me. This is going to be the last time I talk to my sister. My best friend.
"Hey," I say putting on a fake smile as I pick up. "What's up?"
"Okay, okay, first things first. I'm Indie's maid of honour. Just needed to get that done, now..." I cut her off, despite the fact I know I won't even be at that wedding.
"No way in hell. I'm her maid of honour!" I exclaim.
"You don't even live with her right now!" Dak argues. I shake my head,
"Doesn't matter I'm the maid of honour!" I exclaim. "Let's talk about this in person next time. Then we can pillow fight to the death." I joke, "so how's everything there?"
"It's good, Dad and Grandpa are much better!" she starts, "Indie is already diving into wedding planning. They think they want to have it in June sometime."
"That would be pretty!" I exclaim. "Like outdoors?"
"That's what they were thinking!" she exclaims, "I know you don't want me asking, but how are things with Griffin. Last time we talked they were... less than good." I take a deep breath.
"Things are better," I start, "we forgave each other, and are regaining each other's trust. Everything is good." Except for the fact that tomorrow I'm quitting the family business and basically making my siblings kill me.
"That's good!" she exclaims, "I'm pretty sure Nate is proposing as well soon, but he doesn't want to take Indie's spotlight... so he is being nice and waiting a month or two."
"That's nice of him!" I exclaim. Nate and Indie, as much as they fight, are really each other's twins and care about each other.
Dak and I talk for another couple hours, and I soak in every last minute of it. When it's almost midnight, Dak realizes she should be going soon.
"Just another hour!" I beg,
"Mae I have a mission at 8am tomorrow!" she exclaims, "I got to go, I'll talk to you in a couple days!" I close my eyes while Dak is changing into her pjs.
"Fine," I say, "Bye Dak, love you so much, and I miss you." I hope she doesn't think anything is up and just says the same back.
"Yeah yeah, goodnight, love you, miss you, see you soon!" she exclaims hanging up not knowing that's the last time she could possibly ever talk to me. How would she know. I gave no indication whatsoever.
I can't sleep. I didn't go to bed until 1am, and I pretty much just tossed and turned all night. All I could think about the whole night is that they know, and they are going to come and get me, and never let me see Griffin again. But they never come, and I just toss and turn, before an already long day coming up. So instead, I get up and start packing. I'm used to packing everything quickly, which is why I was planning to do it right before going, but it's not like I'm going to do anything else right now. I start by packing up all my clothing into one of the suitcases. I've bought a lot more clothing since coming to Miami. I leave out light blue overalls and a white tshirt to change into. I hide my new phone under the clothes, along with the bag with the house keys. By the time I've packed everything, including a few special pictures I went to the store to print out yesterday, I go downstairs to make everyone breakfast. Might as well make a good last impression... right. It's about 6:15am when I finish making all the pancakes (chocolate chip for Sunny and Ben). Ben is always first to wake up around 6:30-7, and then wakes up his mom. Sunny usually sleeps til 7or a bit after, and Jordan gets woken up by the noise. I turn on the news and watch for... well news, while I wait for everyone else to wake up.
