Griffin

When I wake up, I'm shaking. I know I shouldn't be so nervous about telling them this, but I am. I'm afraid they'll say no, or tell me that I have to put her in jail, or, or, or. There are so many ways this could possibly go, and I'm not exactly excited for it. As I throw on the Colton uniform for our stakeout after breakfast, I remind myself to breathe. It'll be okay. We have plans in place for no matter how this turns out.
"Morning Griff," Mack says as I come down the stairs. "My parents left for work already so you'll have to deal with cereal for breakfast." I nod,
"Yeah, yeah that's fine," I respond fiddling with my fingers. I know I shouldn't be nervous given that this is like the least dangerous part of all of this, but oh my god do I wish I could squeeze Mae's hand right now. "I umm, I need to talk to you guys about something." They both look up with me, worry filling their face.
"Griff?" Cas says questionably. I look at my feet instead of them. I sit at one side of the table and they sit at the other.
"Promise you'll let me finish before you interrupt," I say looking to both of them. After receiving a nod, I continue. "I told you both that... that Mae cheated on me, and that's why I was, why I was frustrated with her. But I lied. I know I shouldn't have but I couldn't find a way to tell you both the real reason." I pause looking for a reaction, but they both look engaged, as if they are watching a movie. "Mae is, was, well is, but soon to be was," Mack cuts me off,
"Griffin, stop stalling get to it!" now she's getting frustrated.
"Mae is Blake. Like an actual Blake. Maeve Blake is her full name, and I know, I know it's really really bad, but she isn't like the rest of them, and she wants to change, she's committed to changing and-" I'm cut off again by Cassie.
"What the actual fuck," she says staring me dead in the eyes, "Griffin. Griffin tell me you're kidding. Tell me this is a cruel joke." I don't say anything and Cassie rolls her eyes. "Griffin what! You've been dating a Blake. An actual Blake for 3 months." 4 months. "How long have you known this!"
"That night," I say, "when I said she cheated on me. In reality I found out. But she really does want to change, she hasn't done any missions since I found out, and she wants to leave the organization." Mack, who up til now has stayed silent pipes up.
"Griffin, I know you love her, but we all know it's impossible. No one can leave that business no matter how much they want to." I bite my lip,
"It's dangerous but we figured out a way how to," I say, "and that's why I need your help."
"No! No! No!" Cassie repeats for the 100th time. "Griffin, how can you even trust her! We've been taught since birth how bad they are, and now you want to, you want to have her move in with us!" I stay silent and notice how Mack does too. "What you expect her to just leave the family business and help you hunt down her own family!"
"Cas, you don't know her like I do. She isn't the kind of person who would stab me in the back. She knew who I was for so long before I found out about her, and not once did she tell her family, or come kill us, despite knowing where I live!" I argue.
"Griffin!" she exclaimed, "Mae seemed lovely when we met her, but those people are born to lie. Born to kill!"
"Cassie she isn't that way!" I argue, "and if you don't want to do this, then fine, I'll move in with Mae on my own!"
"Griffin you aren't moving in with a criminal!" Cassie exclaims, "you should be putting her in jail!"
"Cassie," Mack says quietly. "I agree we can't trust her right away, but if she hasn't done anything yet, why would she do it later on?" This silences Cassie for a moment, "how about this." Mack the peacekeeper interviens, "you invite Mae over for dinner tonight. We talk to her, get a feel for this plan, and her own personality, then we all decide together if we trust her to move in with us." I nod, not feeling this is the right time to mention she would have to move in within the next 2 days.
