Griffin

September 18th, 2180

5:15pm

Tomorrow is Mae's birthday, and I have to finish up the rest of preparing before the stores close down. I have this huge romantic night planned, filled with lots of presents. I have no shortage of money you could say, so why not spend it on the person I love.

"Be back in 20!" I call out to Mack and Cas, who are planning their own girls' night for tomorrow. They don't even look up from the computer and just yell,

"Bye." I leave the house rushing off to the jewelry store before it closes. I had the gift made specially for Mae (with some help from Cas and Mack), and I really hope she likes it. I get to the store at 5:23 on the dot, only 7 minutes before they close. "Hi, I'm here to pick up an order for Griffin." I say. The owner nods and heads to the back.

"It turned out beautifully," he says in his strong... I'm actually not sure what his accent is, but somewhere in Western Europe I would guess. I smile at the gift, pleased with how it looks.

"Thank you so much," I say, handing him my credit card. He puts the charge through and hands me the gift in a little velvet box. On the way back from the jewlers I decide to take a pit stop to pick up one of the other gifts. I could pick it up tomorrow morning, but I still have other things to do. When I get into the place filled with children, I know I don't exactly fit in, but I thought it was a cute idea. "Hi, I preordered something a couple days ago for Griffin," I say to the girl, around my age at the front.

"Ok one sec," she says, obviously not pleased she has to actually do her job. She comes out with the present in it's bag already and I pull it out just to check it's the right thing. It is, and I think she'll love it. "That'll be $24.35," she says. I pay in cash and I'm about to leave when the girl keeps talking, "is that for your girlfriend?" she asks. I nod smiling,

"It's her birthday tomorrow," I say. I don't know why I'm talking about Mae to a random stranger, but I guess there is no harm in bragging about your gorgeous girlfriend.

"God, I wish someone cared enough to set up..." she trails off pointing to the bag, "all that."

"This isn't even half of it," I smirk. I leave right after that, since a lot of parents were confused by me being in a build a bear as an 18 year old boy.

When I get home at 6, Cassie and Mack are already off gossiping in their room. So I decide to text Mae.

Me:

Last 6 hours of being 17!

Mae:

I know!! Finally I'll be 18! Legal adult!

Me:

Excited for the surprise?

Mae:

More like nervous, but yes... excited

Me:

You'll love it! See you at 7 at the cafe!

With that I put my phone away smiling. I can't wait for Mae to see everything, and I really hope she loves it.

**The next day**

I wake up to my alarm at 10:30. I have lots of things to prepare for tonight, and I only have 8 and a half hours to do it. First up, is flowers. I head out about an hour after I wake up heading straight for the shop. I pick up what I ordered and bring it back to the house, where I start setting up. When I finish it looks similar to when we went glamping in Penn. A heart made of rose petals is on my bed, as well as many other rose petals sprinkled across the floor. There are also a few bunches of actual roses on either side of my bed. Next I run to pick up all the balloons. Let me say, bringing home 100 balloons filled with helium is a real challenge. When I finally get all of them into my room and let the white and gold cover the ceiling, I reward myself with a lunch break. After lunch, I tape up the gold Happy Birthday balloons above my bed, and place the gold 18 balloons on one side. I wrap up the build a bear present in a box using red and white wrapping to go with the colour theme here. I then place that box on the side of the bed. Next I run out to pick up the rest of the gifts, and the cake. The cake looks so good and I think she'll love it!
