Virgil let his thestral butt his nose into his hand, trying not to laugh. The sun hadn't risen yet but the moon had gone and pink rays of light were appearing on the horizon. "Storm, shush! We don't want the others to wake up!" Virgil giggled as the skeletal horse pressed his muzzle deep into his owners' cheek with a snort.

"Yeah, I know you want to go for a flight, I do too, but Roman and the others will freak out!" They were sheltering in a small hole in a large hill - the walls were mossy and stony, making it perfect shelter from the elements.

Storm tossed his head back with another snort, fluttering his wings. Virgil couldn't keep the smile off his face as he sighed. "Only a short one, 'kay?"

As he was about to climb onto Storm, he wondered whether to attach the saddle and sort out the reigns. Shrugging it off, Virgil mounted the thestral, sitting comfortably between the wing-joints. Virgil held tight to the feathers that ruffled Storm's' neck and squeezed. Storm reared back and bolted out of the small cave and flew into the air.

Roman watched Virgil leave drowsily, smiling sleepily - he liked that side of Virgil. The one who laughed without being sarcastic... Maybe he just liked Virg...

.:*:.

Virgil landed with a whoomph, a small thud coming from the ground. His hair was wild and wind-swept, and his eyes were big and glistening. "Woah..."

"Ahem?" Logan's' voice was curt and instantly Virgil winced. "Care to explain vanishing without any explanation?"

"You scared the life outta us, kiddo!" Whined Patton. The fatherly figure gave Virgil a look of sincere disapproval. "You didn't even take a saddle."

Virgil remained mounted on Storm, looking down at his hands nervously, "Didn't think I'd be gone so long..." He mumbled.

"Patton and I were on the verge of a mental breakdown! What were you thinking?! No one even knew you had left!"

"I knew..."

They turned to face Roman, who had originally been curled up next to his pegasus near the back of the cave. He went red, looking away as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I mean, I saw him leave. He started moving and it woke me up. I, erm, watched him play with Storm for a bit, then they left and I fell back asleep..."

"Wow, creepy much?" Virgil said sarcastically. "How many times have you watch me then, princey?"

Roman gasped, offended. "It's not my fault you were being really loud!"

"It's not my fault either."

"Says the guy who names animals."

"Says the guy who watches me while I'm unaware of it."

"Emo nightmare."

"Sir Sing-a-lot."

"Alright, enough, you two!" Logan snapped frustratedly. Breathing in, he placed his hands on his waist firmly, frowning down at them in a motherly way. "Honestly, you two are like brothers who never stop fighting! Roman, you should have shared this information with us and Virgil, you shouldn't have left without leaving a note."

Patton laughed as the Princes lowered their heads shamefully. "Wow, Lolo! That was such a mom thing to do! Lecturing them like that."

"Yeah," Virgil scoffed, sarcastically. "Guess Patton's' the dad and you're the mom. When's the wedding?"

Roman nearly choked he laughed so hard and Virgil cracked a wide smile.

Patton and Logan both went very red. Logan opened his mouth to speak but Patton spoke first, "Okay, kiddos, very funny. Logan and I aren't like that - we're just friends. Honestly, some maturity would be appreciated." He crossed his arms and closed his eyes, tutting.

Logan looked at Patton, obviously hurt and upset. Then he looked up at something on top of the cave. "Yes, Patton is correct. One moment, I think I see something over there that could be of use; I'll be back." Patton, Virgil and Roman watched Logan walk away briskly.

"Well, shi-" Virgil began.

"Language!" Warned Roman, trying to lighten the mood with some joking about.

Patton swallowed nervously. "Do you think he'll be okay?"

"Just give him some time, Pops. He'll come round." Virgil smiled.

"Yeah, padre!" Grinned Roman. "Logan probably saw some sort of rare mushroom and forgot all about the conversation." He lied with a shrug.

Patton looked down at the ground. A few seconds passed and he looked up again with a bright smile. "Yeah, you're right! C'mon, let's make some breakfast! I think I saw a berry patch back down the path a bit."

.:*:.

Tears fell to the floor. He didn't try to dry them. He just cried silently.
