Virgil stood resolutely by the cave entrance, keeping an angry watch. Tapping his foot, he glared at the dark landscape with a sneer.
Roman watched Virgil and then turned away with a sad sigh. He curled his knees up into his chest and looked up at Logan and Patton, who were plotting their next move.
"Logan, you know I highly respect you and value your opinion, but we must stop at the approaching village to buy necessary items. We've depleted our supplies since our last stop at Dragon's' Creek. It's practically empty apart from the masquerade outfits." Patton said, stressing every long or advanced word he used.
"Patton, although we often see eye to eye, we should keep advancing to the Dark Realm border! We are running drastically out of time!" Logan countered. He then looked up from the map, making eye contact with Patton. "That was a good use of the word 'deplete', by the way."
"Eh heh heh, thanks."
Logan smiled at Patton, holding his gaze before he looked back down at the map. "But we should still go to the Dark Border."
"I think we should head to the village." Joan piped up from where they sat opposite Roman. "Patton has a good point. What's the village called?"
"Spirit's' Flight. Well known for it's' exotic pastries and memorable landmarks, such as the Spirted Woods." Logan answered promptly.
"That's not far from Virgil's' border, is it?" Roman jumped into the conversation.
Patton thought for a moment. "It merges into the forest that spreads over the border - the Glowing Forest and...?"
"The Dark Forest." Virgil snapped, not even turning back. Instead, he just crossed his arms firmly. "We call it the Dark Forest."
"That's it! So, if we stop at Spirit's' Flight in the morning, we can stock up our resources and stuff!" Persuaded Patton, sidling up to Logan. "And judging by the map, we'll be closer to the border then if we continue this road!"
Logan hesitated then sighed. "Fine. We'll head there in the morning." He rolled up his map, standing up. "Virgil keeps watch until about ten, then wakes me up. I'll watch until 2 am, and wake up Roman. Roman, you're gonna have to sleep on the ride there."
"Sure thing, Lo. I'll get sleep while I can." Roman responded as Virgil nodded.
Four of them shifted into comfortable sleeping positions while the Dark Prince stood unwaveringly by the entrance. Soon the cave was filled with quiet snoring and regular snorts from the winged steeds, who'd been asleep for a while.
Then Virgil turned around to look at the sleeping Roman, and his scowl softened. Moving away from the cave entrance, he sat next to the sleeping man, watching him as he slowly ran his fingers through the other prince's' soft brown hair.
"Goodnight, you stupid princey. I'm glad you're alive."
And he could've sworn, Patton's' eyes were open.
