Roman looked sick. His skin was pasty and his eyes were brimmed with red. Dark rings made his usually bright green eyes look sunken in and dull. He was like a twisted shadow of his former self, moping around the castle with a haunted expression.
Remus looked tired. He'd been forced to stand in for Deceit while his fiance had run off to find Virgil. Now he was taking care of Roman's' Realm while the young King was mourning. He had two advisors to lecture him and had to reassure the Light and Dark citizens that Philip's' death would go avenged.
Roman looked mournful. No longer were his eyes witty and smart. They were painful to look at. He was hunched over when laying down, slouching when sitting and sagging when standing. He hadn't ridden or even given Cloud, his pegasus, a second thought in his sorrow, which he would always do when sad or stressed. Grieving paled in comparison to his loss.
Remus looked angry. It was in his grey-brown eyes: a burning, scorching inferno of rage that' roar echoed in his voice when it shook. His fists were always clenched and his face always stonily set. There were servants who'd scurry away the moment they heard his heavy steps down the corridors. Fury was an understatement to the murder he was so desperate to commit.
Roman and Remus were both mourning. No one knew what to do about it.
Now, the two men were in the throne room. Roman sat on his throne with an uncharacteristic slouch and Remus stood behind him.
That's when Deceit entered. He looked almost proud and his eyes glittered with cold, bitter amusement. "Gentlemen," He said with a steep bow, "I have found them."
Logan, Patton, Joan and Heather stepped into the throne room. Heather obediently flew over to Remus, perching on his shoulder.
The three humans, however, gasped at their King's' state. Roman looked them over with dull, dull eyes and Patton rushed to his side. The baker hugged Roman tightly as Logan appeared on the other side, swooping his arms around the two and Joan joined in the giant hug without a moments' hesitation. Roman felt his shoulders begin to shake and he began to sob loudly in the arms of his friends, trying to pull all three closer to him.
Deceit waited, the cold amusement briefly giving into pain, but he was soon clearing his throat again. "Roman, I found the portal. It seems that the prisoners' instructions were correct. As you can tell, I retrieved your friends. Now, may I turn into a genocidal maniac and tear through there?" It wasn't like Deceit needed Roman's' permission. He just knew that Roman wanted some control over someone that he could count on, a friend to follow through with the small orders and the large orders.
"I'm coming with you." Roman croaked, wiping his tears into his forearm as he softly pulled his friends off him. "I want to find whoever killed my father and whoever took my boyfriend and kill them myself. And I want King Thomas to see what he's put these Realms' through."
Deceit nodded. "Would anyone else like to accompany us?"
"I am! I am going to tear some heads off some shoulders!" Remus piped up happily, his face suddenly set in a sadistic leer at the idea. Deceit smirked at him fondly.
Logan stood up, adjusting his glasses. "I am coming too. Virgil was a good friend and Philip was a good king. I shall avenge them." He looked like he wanted to say something else, but didn't.
"I want to come..." Patton mumbled, not leaving Roman's' arm. "I want to find my children..."
Joan nodded sternly. "I will stay here. To protect the cities with the help of Maria."
"Thank you, Joan," Roman said, tilting his head to look at his friend. A tiny sparkle of warmth flickered in his eyes as he gave a strained smile. "Thank you."
Joan smiled back gently. "No problem, Roman."
Deceits' smirk turned to a playful evil and unbuttoned his small cape. It fell to the ground and he swept it away with a single kick. He was wearing a black waistcoat over a grey shirt, both of which were lined with shining gold. "Let's go."
