The rain was falling on Moomin Valley as if the heavens had decided to empty themselves. It was the wettest weather that anyone could remember.
That morning, when the skies finally cleared, Moomin Valley was filled with large puddles and healthy, lovely flowers. Lulamoon was out collecting potion ingredients to restock her shelves.
"Yellow-spotted lizard tails, grasshopper wings, blue frog's tongue." She had plenty of plants growing in her gardens, it's the more grosser ingredients she had to hunt down. The witch saw Moomin quickly running towards Moomin House with a jar in his hands. "I wonder what he's doing."
Lulamoon went back home and started putting her ingredients in jars and putting them on the shelves in her potions lab. "Hmmm." She went through her checklist again and sighed. "I need minnow eyes. I'm not much of a fisher." She thought for a moment before snapping her fingers. "Snufkin!"
~~~
Lulamoon could see Snufkin's tent as she got closer to Moomin House. The Mumrik was sat outside repainting his fishing bobber. "Snufkin!" She called out.
He turned and waved to her as she made her way to him. The witch smiled when she reached him and sat down on the grass next to him. "Hello Lulu." He greeted.
"I have a favor to ask."
"Oh?"
"I need a minnow for my potions but I'm not really much of a fisher. Could you catch one for me?"
"Sure! It's quite a coincidence really. I was going fishing for minnows today anyway."
Lulamoon tilted her head. "Oh? For dinner?"
"Well..."
"Hey! Snufkin!" They heard Moomin yell. He was running over the bridge, towards them.
"Hi." Snufkin greeted his friend when he finally reached them. Moomin sat down on the other side of him.
"Fishing again?" Moomin asked.
"Yup. The cards told me that if I caught five minnows, one right after the other, I'd be traveling South."
Lulamoon stared at him in shock while Moomin shot up. "South? You're joking!"
"Not at all. I believe in the cards."
"But Snufkin." The Moomin started. "Winters not here yet."
'Winter?' Thought the witch. 'Does he always leave for winter?'
"I know that." Said the Mumrik. "But the cards tell you things for a reason Moomin."
"Do they really?" Moomin looked down at the ground. Upset at the though of his friend leaving early. "But it would be awful if you went away Snufkin. Just awful. I mean, I'd be very lonely. Who would I talk to or tell my secrets to? Well, Lulu's here but I'd still want to tell you too."
Lulamoon's heart warmed when Moomin basically said that he trusted her with his secrets. She watched as Snufkin didn't say anything and put his paintbrush and bobber down. 'He's leaving? I guess, heading south is better than spending winter in a tent. But it's not winter yet.'
"Oh!" Moomin gasped and grabbed Snufkin's arm. "Snufkin! You must come to Moomin House!"
"Now?" He asked.
"Yah!"
"Well....I suppose I could fish later."
"No, no! There's no point!"
"But I have to catch five minnows."
'Oh, Moomin.' Lulamoon shook her head sadly as he pulled Snufkin to his feet.
