Really, Logan didn't expect someone else to answer the door at Lewis' house.

But, instead of being greeted by Lewis' smiling face, there was someone else standing on the other side. At first, Logan double-checked to make sure he had the right house, because it was enough of a shock. But the cheery little flower painted around the doorbell was enough to assure him.

"You're Logan, right? He'll be down in a few, or you can head up there." The guy seemed nice, but something still felt off.

As soon as Logan stepped inside, Lewis appeared at the top of the steps, arms folded over his chest. "Hey, stupid, don't you think introducing yourself is a good idea? Logan might be thinking I'm dumb enough to let a total stranger into my house again!"

The guy laughed, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand as he held the other out to Logan. "I'm Alex, dumbass extraordinaire. I'm-"

"-gonna be late for work if you don't get going."

They barely had time to make contact before Lewis was practically shoving Alex out the door. Alex stopped and kissed Lewis' cheek, softly telling him, "See ya later. Love you."

After he left, there was a tense silence between the friends, a dark blush rising to Lewis' cheeks. "So..." he began, tucking his hands into the pockets of his jeans.

"New boyfriend?" Logan asked. "It's only been at most two months since you and Z split-"

"Um... it's actually been like a month and a half..." he bashfully corrected, looking down at the floor.

"Exactly, Lew. Don't you think you're moving on a little quickly? I mean... I know you, and it took you a week to get over that time I accidentally knocked over that vase of flowers."

"I'm okay, dude. Trust me. Alex is a good guy, and I'm happy. I'm just super glad I ran into him again, because it's nice having him in my life again."

Logan was pretty surprised when Alex, of all people, texted him. The message was simple, a request to meet up and talk without Lewis. A confusing thing, sure, but it didn't have to be anything bad, right?

They met up at a music store, chatting kind of aimlessly while they looked around. Finally, though, standing in front of the guitars on the wall, Alex sighed and murmured, "I didn't think it would be this hard to just ask a simple question."

Logan, being the absolutely eloquent man he was, said, "What?"

"I wanted to get your input on something important, and it's gotta do with the one person we have in common," he replied. "So... since you've been his best friend for literally over a decade, you definitely know him. His mom helped me pick this out, but I wanted to double check with you to make sure he'd like it."

He pulled a little box out of his jacket pocket and tossed it to Logan. And, since it was before ten a.m., maybe Logan's brain wasn't processing things fast enough.

"Is this... Is this an engagement ring?" He popped open the box, the silver band inside catching the light just right. "You're thinking about proposing?"

"Yeah, man. I know it's only been a year or so, but I really love him. I'm half afraid he's gonna wake up one day and realize there's so many better people out there and just leave, y'know?"

Lewis looked down at the page he'd been writing on. After a quick reread, he laughed and ripped the page out of his notebook, immediately chucking it across the room. Too obvious, he thought, tone it down, dumbass.
