By the time their five days were up, Lewis still hadn't told Alex, despite Logan's urging.
He'd gone back to his mother, hoping to catch her in a state of lucidity or just something other than what she'd been last time. But every time he spoke, she had waved him off, scribbling things frantically in a notebook.
Personally, Lewis spent most of those five days being unusually clingy towards Alex, who just knew something was off. He couldn't figure out what, though, and that was driving him up the wall.
On that last day, Lewis kept himself busy right up until the clock struck twelve. He changed his clothes at least three times, all the while picking flowers and leaves out of his hair and off his shoulders. Finally, at noon, in the time it took to blink, he was transported to wherever the fuck it was.
The room seemed to be carved from a softly glowing stone, although it could've just been a trick of the light. On one side (where Lewis was) stood bewildered people, all looking around in probable confusion. On the other, larger than life, were who he assumed were the gods.
It was easy to pick out his mother, flowers on her dress and skin moving ever so slightly, beside her husband, draped in fabric that almost seemed to shimmer with agonized faces. Logan's father, another easy find, glowed a golden hue, beside a woman who shined silver.
There were so many, it could've taken hours to properly identify them all. But he didn't have hours.
The man from the announcement stepped forward, the smile on his face not quite reaching his eyes. Lewis expected him to address the waiting demigods, but instead, he turned to face his fellow gods. "It's time. Say your goodbyes and give your gifts."
Lewis watched as the gods sought out their replacements. He tried to keep an eye on his mother, but she didn't step closer for a while.
Beside him, a god with sea green eyes (probably Poseidon) embraced a girl with ones to match, the ends of her hair dyed a vibrant blue. A notebook was given to her, then, with the scent of saltwater, the man disappeared.
It was happening all around, books and quick embraces given before the old gods just vanished. Lewis tried to spot someone he knew, but it was no use.
Finally, Persephone joined her son, dropping the book she'd been writing in the last time he visited to pull him in for a hug. He returned it gratefully, because no matter how she'd been acting in the last week, she was still his mom and he had put her through worse. "You can change your mind, mama. Just stay."
"It doesn't work like that, buttercup." Her voice was gentle as she broke away to look at him. "My husband has already moved on. But... there might be some hope for you." She nudged the notebook at her feet and winked.
Then, before he was in any way prepared, she disappeared, leaving behind only a faint scent of pomegranate.
It only took a few more minutes for the rest of them to completely vanish. In total disbelief, Lewis sat down and picked up the notebook, holding it close as he just stared in the distance. His mom couldn't be gone. This was just a huge prank, right?
He was startled out of his trance when someone grabbed his arms and hauled him to his feet. Logan stood there, emitting a soft glow much like the one his father had. "I know you're upset right now, but we've got a huge problem."
"What's wrong?"
They began walking towards a group of people on the other end of the room. "Fucking Ezra. He's here. Guess-"
"Ares?"
Logan sighed and nodded. "At least, somehow, Ronnie's here too, then his friends Chase and Bailey- you remember the fan account kid? Yeah."
"How is this all gonna work? Like, is the whole 'main three' still gonna be like that?" Lewis bit his lip, about five seconds away from clinging to Logan for some semblance of comfort.
However, Logan stopped in his tracks, entering a trance of his own, eyes glowing like miniature suns. Of course, this frightened his timid friend, who shook his arm repeatedly until he snapped out of it. "Shit, I don't like that."
"What was it?" Lewis asked, his own eyes wide.
"Vision, I think. The future. It's not going to stay the same. The new stand-ins for Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon aren't going to be in charge." Logan gave him a hopefully reassuring smile, then started back on their original course.
It took them longer than it should've to reach the group of people standing there, but this room didn't seem to follow normal logic. There, Harry was waiting, agitation written on his face. "Logan, why do I have the feeling that as soon as we leave here, the world is going to go to hell?"
Again, Logan entered that trance state, but Lewis unfortunately ignored him to survey the group standing there.
Ezra, surrounded by a reddish haze, stood next to Ronnie, who really looked bored and unamused. Next to them stood Chase, somehow with a bottle of wine in her hands, and Bailey, a rainbow aura around his head. Close by was also the girl who had been next to him, water pooling at her feet, and another girl who somehow kept changing the appearance of the bag she was carrying.
Logan exited his trance with an abnormal gasp, which drew all eyes towards him. Quickly, he grabbed both Harry and Lewis, pulling them to the side. "You were right, babe. This is going to be a disaster as soon as we leave. I'm talking Ezra getting in people's heads and inciting wars, and- fuck."
"What's wrong, other than the obvious?" Harry asked, hand on his husband's shoulder.
"Well, other than all sorts of natural disasters and wars and that shit, Chase somehow got Dionysus' place and she's over there ruining all the progress we made." Logan sighed, but had to stifle a laugh when Ronnie just casually leaned over and snatched the bottle from her. And, in a moment totally unlike himself, Ronnie launched the bottle, causing it to shatter against the floor.
"By natural disasters..." Lewis started, but stopped when he felt that normal itch of plant growth on his skin.
Logan reached out and ruffled his friend's hair, sending pale pink petals falling. "Earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, all courtesy of that girl," he said, pointing to the one with dyed hair, "-and severe thunderstorms from the new Zeus, and obviously others. I could name off twenty different disasters if I tried. We need to figure out who should be in charge."
Harry nodded, speaking after a moment's thought. "I think it should be-"
"Can we discuss this tomorrow or something? I really need to get home," Lewis mumbled, checking his watch. "I forgot to tell Alex I had something going on, I don't want him to worry."
Harry rolled his eyes, but Logan nodded. "Be safe, Lew. We're gonna stick around and figure something out, but me and you can talk later."
