1 Week Later.
"This place is lovely, right?" Firey's raspy voice echoes in the hall, as he dashes into our new big condominium. I see real plants, a view of the park nearby, and comfortable new furniture. I sigh, and give in his compliments. "Yes, yes. They are."
I scanned the kitchen, dining room, and living room. All were new, everything was. "Firey, where did all the old plates and furniture go?"
"I sold them in the junk shop."
"Why?"
"Because the cockroaches were feeding off of them. Plus, that's all on me."
"They look expensive."
"They are."
"Well since it's on you I don't care how much it costs."
I admire the way they placed the furniture. Each space is used correctly, and there's enough space for me to even put a dog house here. One thing I noticed was,
An Aquarium.
"Where did this come from?" I mumble, caressing the shiny glass walls of the aquarium as the fishes swim.
"Coiny gave it to me."
"What is it for?"
"A housewarming gift."
"How sweet."
"He really is."
The fishes swam in their big glass box, happily and content. I wish there was a pond nearby. Next I went to was the bathroom, scanning for a hole. None. All safe. There was a bathtub, shower with curtains— and a.. jacuzzi.
Why is there a jacuzzi.
"Firey why is there a jacuzzi."
"We can treat it as a pool for the fishes if you won't use it!"
"No thanks."
Then, I went up ahead to the bedroom. I noticed two rooms. Maybe mine and his.
Nope.
"Firey, where's your room?"
His voice echoes from downstairs. "In your room!"
"Why don't you have a room?"
"It's normal for us to sleep together Leafy. Plus, it's not like I'm having strange ideas."
He paused.
"Are you, Leafy?"
I feel blood rush to my cheeks. Damn this man. I held the doorknob of the other room, wondering what it's for.
"What's this room?"
I couldn't hear him say anything, so I walked down to him. Firey was busy cooking our Lunch. "What's the other door for?"
Firey seemed quiet. "It's just.. a vacant.. guest room..? You can use it for anything."
"Is that really there in the first place?"
He laughs, hurtfully. "Yeah! Yeah.."
I stare at the empty room right across ours, wondering what use I could give that thing one day. I don't want to use it as a yoga room I don't even do yoga.
"You can.. imagine that coming from inside that room is sounds of little footsteps?" He smiled.
"Like a ghost?"
"Something alive?"
"A dog?"
He sweats, on the brink of tears. "Maybe?"
"What's the punchline anyway, Firey? Stop beating around the bushes."
He laughs it off. "Nothing. Let's eat."
I sigh, and take a seat across him.
That night, I had a dream.
Little foot steps coming from that door.
Laughing, chasing, and walking.
What was behind it? I was curious too, after all I've never opened it.
I held the door knob. My mind says don't.
I close my eyes, hoping to see a ghost.
I hear a raspy pitchy voice.
The alphabet plays in the background.
"A..B..C..D..F..G.."
Who are you?
I open my eyes, but instead of seeing who was in that room, I awoke in my bed. I peeked over Firey, who was lightly sleeping on the floor since I forced him to.
What's inside that door anyway?
