Three months later, someone screams loudly making me wince but I stab the man in front of me furiously. Sweat pours off me and I stumble as I take a step forwards. The heat is way past unbearable. I would just drop here and pass out but my father is nowhere to be seen. Suddenly the fire stops and Valarie lands in front of me. I spare a moment to glance at Alec and Thor who fight a few meters away from me. She lets out a big blast of fire energy that turns into flame daggers and kills every single one of the people we've been fighting against. The extra sudden heat from her has me collapsing onto the ground.
'So, when do I get lessons on how to fake my death?' I ask as silence fills the courtyard once more.
Valarie finally turns around and faces me. Alec lets out a strangled cry and Thor just watches his daughter with Loki by his side. The heat disappears and I flop backwards on the ground groaning. My father stands at my head and looks down at me smirking.
'Valarie?' Alec chokes out. My father kneels and helps me sit up. I watch as Alec and Thor both charge at Valarie, Alec getting there first. He picks her up and swings her around, laughing and crying at the same time. Just as he puts her down Thor picks her up and he holds her so gently like he's nursing a precious broken bird.
'Valarie, I can't believe it. Where have you been?'
'We saw you die.'
'Loki! What did you do!'
'What?' My father says as he picks me up. 'What does this have to do with me?'
'You taught my daughter how to fake her own death!'
'No, I didn't,' my father replies sounding rather bored as he turns to carry me to my room. I hit him in the shoulder.
'Not yet. I want to talk to Valarie.'
He looks down at me tiredly. I gaze back at him until he sighs and spins back to Valarie.
'Valarie, Drama Queen over here wants to talk to you.'
A moment later I gaze up into Val's eyes. I frown.
'Since when the fuck did you get so tall?' I complain.
She smirks. 'Did you actually want to talk to me or are you going to keep staring at me?'
'Well I haven't seen you in months.'
'And? Every other time that doesn't stop you.'
'AH HA!' Val jumps backwards at my yell. 'You're a goddess,' I state.
'No shit Sherlock,' she replies dully, her silver eyes more sparkly than usual.
'Goddess of what?' I murmur, my eyes blinking desperately, I'm faintly away that I'm swaying where I stand.
'Fire. Loki is she alright?' Valarie's voice becomes quieter as my eyes close and I start to fall into the dark.
'I think so. It could just be from the heat of the fire.' My father's calm voice is the last thing I hear before I enter the dark.
My head tilts and the feeling of the scratchy material jolts me conscious. I sit up on the couch. A quick look around lets me know that I am in Valarie's home.
'Alright enough!' I yell as Alec kisses Valarie. Val ignores me and they continue to display shows of their love.
'I am leaving,' I call as I walk out the front door of the home.
'Whoa hold it bucko,' I hear Valarie say and moment later I hear her footsteps on the gravel meters behind me. I look over at her then back to where I'm going.
'It's not right.'
'What is not right?'
'You're meant to be short!'
Val only laughs at me and walks with me.
'Valarie, I want to show you something,' I say and I lead the way away from Asgard to where I teleported to at her funeral. We enter a small field of roses that smell strongly of them.
'Why?' is all Val says as she gazes hungrily at them.
'This is where I spent most my time when you were gone,' when I wasn't drinking or unconscious, I add silently.
'Raven,' she starts.
'No. Val...I missed you. When you were gone, I realized how much you mean to me.'
'Raven stop. I know you don't need to understand. We won't be as we once were, we will be better,' Val smiles and picks some roses. 'Now excuse me. I have a husband and children I need to attend,' she says as she holds the bouquet to her nose, smelling them. She walks away leaving me to my field of roses.
'I love you Raven,' I hear her sigh as she leaves the clearing.
'Love you too nerd,' I mutter.
The next morning before breakfast I go down to Valarie's home and as I enter the kitchen I smell pancakes.
'Ooh pancakes,' I say as Valarie turns around holding a plate of blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes.
'Not for you,' she replies. I laugh and grab my own plate helping myself to them. I take my seat at the table and tell my father. Moments later he and Thor walks in. They take their seat at the table. Valarie watches them and bursts out laughing. She sits the plate of pancakes on the table.
'Alright monster, food is ready.'
She leaves and Thor follows her. They come back in both holding a kid and putting them in to their chair.
I sit at the table watching silently and occasionally joining in the laughter as I eat. I ignore the glances Valarie gives me while I continue to laugh at Alec pulling faces at his kids and Thor and Loki joking around with each other. Loki and Thor start having a weird conversation, I shake my head at what they were saying the smile staying on my face. For once there were no tears, no screams, no echoes of our feelings. Just pure happiness.
After breakfast Loki and I pitch in and do the dishes while Alec looks after his kids. Thor and Valarie leave to go outside.
'So what do you think they're doing,' I ask over the clatter as the dishes wash and clean themselves. I use my magic while Loki actually dries them without using his magic.
'What do I think who are doing?'
'What do you think Valarie and Thor are doing? They went outside and everything. So weird.'
'Probably so Valarie can show off her powers.'
'How come she died and came back as a goddess?'
Loki stops, looks back at where I sit on the bench swinging my long legs. He shrugs.
'Probably because she is Odin's favourite granddaughter.'
'Weird to think about it that way,' I reply. A feminine scream echoes through the house just as Loki puts away the last of the dishes. Thor comes in and lets us know that it wasn't Valarie but rather two young girls from the wolf pack and that Valarie would be occupied for some time. We nod and leave the house by teleportation, leaving Thor to make his own way back.
