Two and a half weeks after Valarie left, I pick up the baby and gently throw her up into the air and catch her as she falls. She laughs. There's a knock on the front door and Alec answers it. He shoots me a frown as he walks past me.
'What? I'm keeping her entertained.'
He only groans in response but answers the door. He walks back in with a letter in his hand,
'Get Thor here,' he snaps.
'Rude,' but I tell my father to get Thor here rights away. He obliges and minutes later I hear Thor land.
Thor enters the home and Alec immediately sees him.
'Thor would you mind taking the kids. Leave Raven here though.'
'Hey!' I protest. Thor only chuckles and scoops up the kids and leaves. I watch Alec curiously as he remains silent until the kids are gone then he screams and throws the letter in my direction. I pick it up and glance at it. Then I do a double take. The letter is from the army. Bucky Barnes, Valarie Lockwood and their squad has died in action.
'It's all your fault!' he yells.
I let the letter drop to the floor. 'How is it my fault this time?' I sigh. I lean against the bench and finish my cup of whiskey.
'If you had stopped her from going, she wouldn't have died!'
'Keep going,' I say as I refill my cup.
He only grows angrier. 'YOU could have TAKEN HER place! You could have stopped her from going. But NO, you let her go!'
I finish the drink and slam the cup down onto the side of the bench. The glass breaks and shatters everywhere. 'Okay pretty boy that's enough.' I take a step forward and flick a dagger into my hand. 'You had just as much chance as I did to stop her from going. You had just as much chance to take her place and gone.'
His hands clench and turn into claws. 'This is all your fault.'
I teleport past him and open the front door. He appears next to me and slams the door shut.
'Where do you think you're going?' he growls.
I step backwards, ice shooting out my hands and freezing his feet to the ground.
Father, I cry out as Alec breaks the ice. He backs me up against the wall with his claws out ready to scratch me.
The second before he scratches me I'm pulled through a portal. Loki spins me around once I'm through and shoves me to the side. I trip and fall down. He storms through the portal and closes it behind him. I gaze where he just was and then around me. There's a couch right next to me and a rug under me.
'Where the fuck am I?' I mutter to myself as I begin to slowly get up. The room's air density changes as someone teleports.
'Come on,' Loki sighs as he holds out his hand. 'And you're in my study.' I take his hand and he pulls me up to my feet. He steps back as I glance at the couch again and drop down on it. He takes his cape off and drapes it over me as he sits down next to me.
'Okay, why was he trying to hurt you again?'
'What did you do?' I shoot back.
'Nothing,' he says over the knocking on the door.
'News gets around here fast,' I mutter as I sink into the cushions. Loki turns in his seat and we watch the door open. Thor walks in.
'What did you two do now?'
I sink further into the cushions.
'Raven?' Thor turns to me.
'He blamed me for his wife being MIA.'
'We don't know if she's is alive, so how can you say that she's MIA?'
'Because the letter literally says she's MIA!' I yell.
Thor moves closer to me.
'ENOUGH!' Loki yells. 'Thor back up right now!' Thor takes a few steps backwards. Loki clicks his fingers and Alec suddenly appears in the room. 'Alright. Some things are going to change now that Val isn't here.'
'Why are you giving out orders and why am I here?'
'Zip it, wolf-boy,' I snap.
'You're here because I made you come here. You two are her because I am sick of you two constantly hurting or threatening to hurt my daughter. So until Valarie gets back you two are going to stay away from my daughter. And from now on you aren't to even be in the same room as Raven unless I'm there.'
'But.'
'NO! Enough. Now leave,' Loki finishes and points at the door. Alec and Thor look at each other and leave. Loki turns and looks down at me, his eyes still cold. I watch him carefully as he sits down on the couch again.
'You okay now?' He asks.
I nod and remain huddled up under his cloak.
'You clearly haven't been sleeping again. Get some rest,' he says as he pulls me around so I'm lying down.
I gaze up at the ceiling in silence until I eventually fall asleep.
Two weeks after getting the letter Val comes back.
We all sit in the room. Alec sits slumped in a chair; his eyes dull with grief a beard slowly growing on his chin. I stare up at the ceiling tired with trying to keep my emotions in control. It has become easier but it's still so goddamn hard. Alia and Nick sit on the ground in front of Alec their lips quivering. Moments ago, Alec had told them that their mum had died. I don't know why but he had dragged me in as well.
'Where were you Thor?' Alec asks as Thor walks in.
'I was talking to someone.'
'Who?' I look as Valarie walks out of the shadows and Thor points at her.
'Mummy! Oh my god!' Alia cries as she slowly walks towards Val. I watch pale with shock as she kneels and holds her daughter and son. She gets up with the two of them in her arms and gazes at Alec through tears. He walks over in a daze and all but falls into her arms.
'I thought you were dead,' he mutters.
'No sorry not happening,' Val puts the
kids down. I stand and slowly make my way over to her. Then I give in deciding hell to the reputation and I hug Valarie tightly. I let go and step back.
'Raven?' she whispers.
'Glad your back,' I reply. She just stares at me in silence. 'What?'
'Since when do you hug?'
'Since when do you die multiple times?'
'I never died. Look I went over and did what I had to do. And we might have lost contact with the army so they thought we had died.'
The room falls silent.
'Well as you can tell, I haven't had a shower for a while so yeah,' she nods her head and walks away.
'She's different,' Thor states.
'Really Thor, I wonder why? Maybe because she's been to war,' I whisper as I turn and walk away.
