AMELIAS POV
"Amelia get up," Owen nudged me.
"Owen it's Saturday!" I complained and rolled over.
"Get up we have to go to the hospital," he said.
"What why?" I said and sat up.
"Nick," he said. I looked at the clock and it was 4am.
"Owen it's 4 in the morning!" I said.
"Amelia," he said, "I wouldn't wake you up if it wasn't important."
"Okay what's going on?" I said and grabbed his hand.
"He's going into surgery, his vitals are crashing," Owen said.
"Are you on call?" I asked.
"I promised him I would be there for him," Owen said, "please Mia."
"Okay," I nodded, "I'll write the kids a note." He nodded and we got dressed and I left the kids a note on the table downstairs. We drove over to the hospital and ran in. I was worried Owen was getting too attached to this kid.
OWENS POV
I was so worried about Nick. I promised him I would be there if he had to go back into surgery. Amelia and I were in the waiting room, I felt bad for him because he was here alone, he'd been in the hospital so much that his parents didn't even come visit him. We had been waiting for 4 hours and Amelia was sitting next to me drinking a coffee.
"Do you want some?" She asked.
"No I'm okay," I said. She nodded and we saw Callie, Arizona, and Bailey come down the stairs.
"He's okay Hunt," she said to me, "room 407."
"Thank you," I said and hugged her.
"If you two get too attached to this kid I will re assign you," she said as Amelia and I started walking.
"I promise it's not like that, he just doesn't have anyone right now," I said.
"Okay," she nodded. Amelia and I got in the elevator and I put my arm around her.
"Owen you cannot get too attached to him," she said softly.
"I'm not," I said and walked down the hall with her. I opened the door and Nick was awake.
"Doctor Hunt!" He smiled.
"Hey how are you feeling?" I asked.
"You brought Doctor Shepherd too," he smiled.
"Doctor Shepherd is my wife," I chuckled and Amelia smiled.
"Really?" Nick said.
"Yeah," I said and sat in a chair, Amelia did the same next to me.
"How do you feel?" I asked against
"Sore," he said, he looked so weak, "is my mommy here?"
"Uh no she's not," I said.
"Oh," he said, "did the social worker talk to her?"
"They did," I said.
"Did they say if my sister was coming?" He asked.
"I could ask for you," I said.
"It's okay," Nick said.
"Nicky?" I heard a female voice.
"Sam!" Nick said.
"Who are you?" Sam said.
"They're my doctors," Nick said, "Doctor Hunt and Doctor Shepherd. He's a trauma surgeon and she's a neurosurgeon."
"It's nice to meet you," Sam said, "I'm his sister, I'm going to be taking care of him from
now on since my mother is clearly incompetent." Amelia and I nodded.
"Is there paperwork I need to fill out for him? I'm sorry I was coming from Florida, I got on the earliest flight I could when he called," Sam said.
"Uh yeah we can get you paper work," Amelia smiled and brought her into the hallway.
"I'm gonna miss you," Nick said.
"I'm gonna miss you too bud," I said, "stay safe."
"I will, I love my sister, she's nice," Nick said.
"I'm glad," I smiled, "goodbye bud."
"Goodbye Doctor Hunt, day goodbye to Doctor Shepherd for me," he said.
"I will," I said and closed his door. Sam was walking back and Amelia was at the nurse's desk.
"Hey you ready to go?" I asked her.
"Uh yeah sure," she said, "you okay?"
"Fine," I said as we got in the elevator. I felt her grab my hand and I smiled.
"He'll be okay Owen, he likes his sister," she said.
"Yeah," I said.
"We can visit him tomorrow," she said and kissed my cheek.
"Okay," I nodded.
"Okay?" She said.
"Okay," I smiled. We walked out of the elevator and back to my car.
"I'm tired," She chuckled, "someone woke me up at 4am on my day OFF."
"Well now I learned 'we need to go to the hospital' gets you out of bed quick," I laughed. She chuckled as we drove home. I looked at the clock and it wasn't even 9 yet, maybe the kids would still be asleep. Amelia unlocked the door and she stopped.
"What?" I said.
"Do you hear that?" She asked.
"I don't hear anything," I said.
"Exactly," she said, "quiet house."
"It is only 8:40," I said.
"I'm going back to bed," she said. I started walking and she stopped.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"To get water," I chuckled, "is there an issue?"
"Can we cuddle while I fall back asleep?" She asked cutely.
"Yes," I said, "meet me upstairs."
"Okay," she nodded. I folded the note Amelia wrote for the kids and grabbed a water bottle. I walked back upstairs and all the kids doors were shut, they were still asleep. I opened our bedroom door and Amelia was snuggled into my pillow.
"Hi," she smiled.
"Hi," I said.
"I'm sorry about Nick," she said, "I know you really care about him and don't want to see him leave with anyone."
"It's okay," I shrugged, "He's in good hands now."
"Yeah," she smiled. I laid down and she snuggled into me. I kissed her head and I rubbed her back.
"I love you," she said.
"I love you too," I said.
"Hey Owen?" She asked.
"Yeah," I said. She put her chin on my chest and looked up at me.
"You're so cute," she said and ran her fingers through my hair.
"So are you," I said. She ran her finger up and down my cheek and she smiled.
"Do you know what day today is?" She asked.
"Uh," I said and looked at the clock, it wasn't an anniversary, it wasn't a birthday, it wasn't her dad or Ryan's death, what was it?
"I almost forgot too," she chuckled, "but we promised the twins we would be doing college research."
"Oh yeah I knew that," I chuckled.
"Mhm," she smiled and kissed my cheek.
OWENS POV
Today Amelia and I were looking into colleges with the kids. They were in the kitchen with their computers.
"Mom and Dad where did you go to college?" Ava asked. I looked at Amelia and chuckled since we both went to Harvard.
"Oh uh, Harvard," she shrugged.
"WHAT," Ava said, "you went to Harvard? Like Harvard Harvard?"
"Are you serious?" Liam said.
"No the fake Harvard," she joked.
"Dad?" Liam said.
"I also went to the fake Harvard," I said.
"WHAT" they both said.
"Why have we never heard about this? You went to Harvard!" Liam said.
"You never asked," Amelia chuckled.
"Did you know each other at Harvard?" Ava asked.
"No, I was there 2 years before your mother and then went into the military after," I said.
"Yeah," Amelia said.
"Okay so you two set extremely high bars," Ava chuckled.
"You don't have to go to an Ivy League school," Amelia said, "you don't even have to become a surgeon, you are free to make your own paths."
"Where did Meredith and Derek go to college?" I asked Amelia.
"Dartmouth and Columbia," She said.
"Did anyone in our family not go to an Ivy League," Ava chuckled.
"I'm sure, somewhere," I chuckled.
"Where does Zola go?" Liam asked.
"Columbia," Amelia said.
"This is so unfair," Ava chuckled, "you have set the bar too high."
