AMELIAS POV
"MOM! DAD!" I heard. I shot up out of my sleep and so did Owen. I looked at the clock and it was 1am, and we bolted out of the room and into the hallway.
"What's wrong?" I said.
"Mom, Dad," Ava said and came around the corner with Olivia, "there's someone outside."
"Where?" Owen said.
"Why are you fucking yelling," Logan said and came into the hallway.
"Dad come here," Ava said and Owen followed her.
"See!" Ava said. I followed them and it looked like someone wanted to hop the fence into our yard.
"Mia," Owen said.
"Yeah?" I said.
"Go call the cops," he said.
"Okay," I said and walked down the hallway.
"Dad they got over the fence," Olivia said. I picked up my phone and dialed 911.
"911 what's your emergency?" The operator said.
"Hi there's about 3 men trying to hop our fence into our backyard and our neighbors," I said.
"Are they armed?" She asked, "cops are on their way and should be there in 2 minutes."
"I-I don't know," I said.
"Can you stay on the line?" She asked.
"Yes," I said.
"Go to my room and just wait okay?" I heard Owen say.
"Are we going to wake Liam?" Ava said.
"Yes," Owen said.
"Owen," I said softly.
"Yeah?" He said, and I could tell he was scared.
"Riley, she can't be traumatized again," I said.
"Okay," Owen nodded.
"Ma'am are you still there?" The operator said.
"Yes I'm sorry I'm still here," I said. We heard a bang on the back door and I froze and looked at Owen. The kids ran into our room and Owen got Riley and Noah while Ava woke Liam up.
"The police are on their way," the operator said.
"Okay," I said.
"Amelia," Owen said.
"What?" I said.
"Give the phone to Ava and come here," he said.
"Okay," I said.
"Ava just stay on the line okay?" I said and gave her the phone.
"What am I supposed to say?" Ava said.
"Nothing just stay on the line," I said. Owen grabbed my arm and pulled me into the closet.
"Why are you doing?" I said.
"This stays between us," he said and moved a pile of clothes and revealed a safe.
"Owen," I said.
"Amelia," he said and opened the safe which revealed a gun.
"The cops are coming they can't see you with that," I said.
"I have a permit," he said.
"I don't care!" I said.
"Amelia," he said, "you trust me don't you?"
"Yes," I said.
"Okay, then trust me," he said and loaded the gun.
"Okay," I said.
"Assuming you don't want the other one then," He said.
"Owen!" I said.
"You need to stay calm if you freak out the kids will freak out," he said.
"I-I know," I said.
"Do you want the other gun?" He said.
"No," I said.
"Okay," he said and put the gun in his belt. There was a loud crash from downstairs and I opened the closet door.
"Did the operator say anything?" Owen asked.
"She said the cops are around the corner," ava said.
"Okay," I nodded.
"I'm going downstairs," Owen said.
"Are you stupid no you're not," I said.
"Amelia," Owen said.
"Owen," I said. I looked over at Riley and she looked so scared. I sat down next to her and she climbed into my lap. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her head.
"It's okay," I said softly. We saw the flashing lights of sirens and the police were here. There was a loud bang from the back of the house and Riley buried her face in my chest.
"Riley the police are here it's okay," Logan said. Riley didn't say anything and I rubbed her back.
-
The police arrested the three men and Owen and I had to talk to the police. The kids all looked so scared, and honestly I was too.
"You guys just stay here okay?" I said to them as Owen and I were going to go back downstairs.
"Okay," they nodded.
"Everything is okay I promise," Owen said and walked into the closet again. I followed him and he took the gun out of his belt.
"Un-un load it," I said.
"That's what I'm doing," he said.
"Okay," I said.
"Thank you for keeping Riley calm," he said.
"Thank you for not going downstairs," I said. He put the gun away and covered the safe and we walked downstairs where 2 officers were waiting for us while 3 police cars took the men away. The back door was shattered into a million little pieces and there was another two officers trying to clean it up. I grabbed Owen's hand and he squeezed it lightly.
"Hello, I'm Officer Brooks and this is Officer Gile, we just need your first and last names, and a statement from each of you, then we'll be out of your hair," Office Brooks said.
"Okay," Owen said, "I'm Owen Hunt and this is my wife Amelia Hunt."
"Thank you," Gile said, "what time did you hear or wake up to the robbers?"
"Our daughters saw them and called for us," Owen said.
"Can we get a statement from them?" Brooks asked. I looked at Owen and he shrugged.
"Yes we'll be back," I said.
"Take your time," Brooks said. We walked back upstairs and Liam was holding Riley who was crying.
"You take Olivia and Ava downstairs I'll stay up here," I said.
"Okay," Owen nodded, "Uh Ava and Liv the police need a statement from you since you saw them first, if you don't want to it's fine."
"It's fine I'll go," Ava said.
"Me too," Olivia said. They followed Owen downstairs and I sat down next to Liam.
"She won't stop crying," Liam said quietly. I frowned and looked at Noah who had his head in Logan's lap.
"Riley," I said softly, "it's okay there's no need to be scared, everything is okay, we're all okay."
"Th-there was a loud noise," Riley said quietly.
"There was," I said softly, "but it's okay."
"What was it?" Riley said.
"It doesn't matter what it is because it's gone now," I said quietly, "okay?"
"Okay," Riley said.
"Okay," I said softly.
-
The cops left a little while ago and I couldn't sleep. Riley was asleep next to me because she was so scared and Owen was sitting next to me. We hadn't said anything about the gun. I was scared. Not that he had one, I trust Owen, but tonight scared me.
"Mia," Owen said softly.
"Yeah?" I said.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the gun," he said.
"It's okay," I said.
"I promise it's secure," he said.
"What's the password?" I said.
"Your name, spelt backwards," he said.
"That takes a lot of thinking," I chuckled.
"My point," he said. I looked over and Riley was snuggled into my side.
"She was doing so well with therapy and now she's scared again," I said crying.
"Okay okay shhh," Owen said and wrapped his arms around me and brought me into his chest.
"I can't protect her from all the violence," I cried.
